Lets see tomorrow whether the R10 is indeed an open LMP car.
As I stated in the R10 launch thread, the gearbox/clutch assembly is actually lighter than the R8's.

It seems the A/C requirement came directly from the FIA, according to the Audi press conference.

DSC are reporting the ACO have made an amendment to the new 'air conditioning' regs. They are now merely recommended for 2006 but will be obligatory in 2007.

No, the + 25 kg remain in the cars. Otherwise it would be a disadvantage for them who will use ac alraedy this year.

Correct, the revised for 2006 minimum weights remain as previously announced (+25kgs) regardless of whether or not a car is fitted with air conditioning.

hope they reduce fuel and restriktor for diesels in 2007. Or do they real want that teams like RfH, Jota, Creation, ... run in LMP2?
If LMP1 is only Peugeot against Audi we better watch F1

It almost feels as if a third LMP class has been created by the ACO. LMPD?

Yes, you are right. I realy dont like it. Ethanol cars like the Nasamax got fuel for the same amount of laps and now the diesels do 2 laps or something like that more than normal cars. only 5 stints and Rfh, ... had to do one pit stop more.
And the ACO didnt care about the amount of torque, restriktors are not a good solution if you have diesel and patrol cars in one race

Is it any different from the advantage a turbo petrol engine has over an F1 based Judd?

Plus, AER have there own version of FSI on the new V8 turbo, so the mpg difference will be smaller than it has been in the past.

And if the Audi is overweight and a little delicate, who knows.

I do not believe that the direct injection will be a feature of the new AER V8 until at least much later in the 2006 season.

Jota have indicated that they will run LMP2 (as a Hybrid) while, judging from the pics on their website, Creation are clearly aiming for LMP1 with a V10 Judd. Can anyone tell whether it is a four or a five litre from the photos?

There was something changed in the fixing of the rear suspension in the last years. I want to know if i is still permitted to fix the rear suspension to the gearbox/diff. Its done in the Creation car, but thats a hybrid.

Nobody on this thread seems to have addressed the issue of how the Air Conditioner rules are to be policed.

Is there going to be some sort of electronic thermometer in each car which sends a signal back to the race steward?

What's to stop a team turning the air conditioner off when they need a bit more power?

Svierge has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
A/C is not a requirement for this year - only a recommendation.

I agree though, the policing will be very interesting.

Nearly every mid-engined race car for decades has done it that way. There is no reason to ban it nor any moves afoot to do so.

Yes, I realised that it wasn't a requirement this year but the question still remains.

Somebody earlier in the thread mentioned that A/C is used in the WRC, is this compulsery? If so, how is it policed it that series?

Ok here's my assessment of it all.

The ACO tried to fix last years race so that Pescarolo would win knowing that this year and probably for the next 10 years they'd have to suck up to the Great "Diesel gravy-train in the sky"

But alas, things went pear shaped for Pescarolo and Audi won again. As a result of this Pescarolo are trying harder than ever to win Le Mans 2006 with weight saving measure's galore, but the ACO can't allow it as they've sold their soul to Diesels now and an extra 25kg's is a bit more insurance to secure a R10 win.

Plus, the extra 25kg + Air Con etc convinces me further that Peugeot's LMP1 will definately be a Coupe and not a Spyder.

Thats all probably a load of conspiritorial garbage, I know, but it does appear that the ACO are bending over a bit too far in order to help a Diesel to win Le Mans.

It would certainly appear to be so. However, the involvement of the big manufacturers (Audi/Peugeot) adds to the stature and kudos of the race. I would suggest that the apparent advantage offered to the diesel powered cars has more to do with getting the manufacturers involved again rather than the fact that they are diesels.

If some of the output figures being banded about for the Audi diesel engine are correct, Pescarolo havent got a prayer come June...........

Are you referring to the 720 bhp mentioned by Yves Courage? (in the news section of Mulsanne's corner)
