The Laguna number is a fact. Sorry. Thanks for the other numbers! NOT wanting to start "the same old debate" again,,,, but there were a few forum posters that said things were slow Friday and Saturday at Denver,, and all of a sudden there's over 100,000 for the weekend. Most dont think thats an accurate figure for the people there..... if ya know what I mean. Anyway's,,,,, I'm remembering 30,000 stated from somewhere?? Oh well,,, anywhere between 30 and 40 thousand is a good OW race number. BTW, this is a great site. Can discuss numbers, drivers, and races without all the non-sense name calling and flames like at other boards..... thanks everyone! |

Thanks everyone... I try to just stick around the Biz, management and numbers threads. For those of you that havnt seen me at other forums,, you'll see why I tend to avoid "feel good" threads. |

If everyone agreed all the time, there would be nothing to discuss!
Welcome to the Forum, Electrocuted. |

After the critzium of the current layout, interestingly on the official website, it has poll on....'Which temporary circuit has the best layout for Champ Car racing?'
31% Cleveland 30% Long Beach 22% Surfers Paradise, Australia 12% Toronto 3% Denver I voted Surfers incase you wondered. Last edited by luke; 23 Mar 2005 at 18:03. |

I think the issue is not how many people were listed as attending but how many were PAID attendees -- and paid without coercion. Both the IRL and Champ give away tickets (to celebs, to radio stations for contests, etc.), but I don't believe Champ has yet stooped as low as the IRL at Vegas, where they gave away tickets as freebies to casino players. Or like at many ISC tracks, where people who have had the same seats for the same NASCAR races every year were told that they could no longer have them... unless they also bought tickets for the IRL race at the same track.
I consider the IRL's attendance figures suspect, and not just because I'm a Champ fan. And to bring this back to the topic of Long Beach, the weather has more to do with how many show up than anything else, IMO. If the weather's crappy (like three years ago) people stay home. I think that's true for many outdoor events in the LA area. Looking forward to seeing Racegypsy and many of our other 10th-10ths friends there, keke Last edited by racerkeke; 24 Mar 2005 at 16:33. Any word on where contract renewal negotiations are going for next year and beyond between Long beach and OWRS???
Today's Indy Star quoted Ken Ungar of the IRL as saying yesterday in St. Pete that the IRL is in "Serious Negotiations" with Long beach to possibly rae there next year.... I would think that OWRS, as the existing partner, would have the inside track.... Has anyone heard anything about the status of negotiations from OWRS's side of the equation??? |

There is a very strong rumor that Long Beach will continue to be a Champ Car race.

As for Champ Car I hope they either leave Long Beach altogether or force a change to the layout. |

I haven't heard anything to the contrary, but I just want to be sure that this is a real rumor and not have false hope |

A rumour from a site called "ChampCar fanatics" is hardly the most objective and credible source.

MarkC and AutoRacing1 are hardly an objective and credible source, in my opinion.

K-b and I are thinking alike on this one. All I am saying is that let's not jump the gun on this one.

Today's LA Times
I hope this link will work as LA Times does require registration. It is going to be an uphill battle to keep the CCWS in Long Beach. With Toyota as sponsor and Dover Motorsports not liking OWRS, it does not look good for retaining this race. I agree with the statement that the CCWS starts too late in the year. And five weeks between LB and Monterey is too long of a layoff. |
