CART's anniversary
i realised that the 2003 season is CART's 25th and the miami race is CART's 400th (not including chicago if it runs then the 400th would be montreal). i assume chris pook realises this. does anyone think he has anything specific planned for the occasion.

Yeah if it was NASCAR it would be Winston's and Budweiser all over the place, but haven't heard a thing out of Cart. I think they should highlight it.

I think that 2004 - 1979 = 25. 2004, it should be, right? Or am I totally incompetent in maths?

Teal'c is right, Jordi. This year is the 25th anniversary. Take a look at that CART book you persuaded me to buy. "The First Twenty Years: 1979-1998" and add five years.
I don't understand why the marketing dept isn't playing it up. Last edited by macdaddy; 13 Feb 2003 at 18:48. |

'cause CART's marketing department consists of a guy working out of a basement office with a Commodore and a budget of $5 a year?
This series has _never_ marketed itself well, it's always relied almost exclusively on sponsors and the media to do it for them. These guys _have_ to learn from NASCAR how to market themselves, or more specifically, their drivers, who are always the big draw. |

I agree that CART should be using this in it's marketing, and think that CART could benefit from much better marketing. But as long as the racing on track is great, I'm not too fussed.

Just for the heck of it, I emailed CART and asked them if they were planning on promoting the anniversary. Here was their reply,
Thank you for taking time to contact CART.com. I think closer to the Anniversary date (November 2003) we will see more promotions from CART regarding its 25th anniversary. |
