Oulton Park, Saturday 26th April

Right then, I think this is the first car meeting of 2003 for Oulton Park, and the first time that the cars use the new Knickerbrook. I'm sure someone will correct me on that point if I'm wrong..

Anyway, here's a timetable for the meeting:

Qualifying

08:45 - Opal Telecom FF1600 Pre 86
09:05 - MGOC Classes A & F
09:30 - Europa Sports & Saloons
09:50 - Toyo Mod Prods
10:15 - Opal Telecom FF1600 Post 86
10:35 - Citroen 2CVs
11:00 - MGOC Classes B & Z
11:20 - Kumho TVR Tasmins
11:45 - Classic Clubmans

Lunch from 12:00 -> 13:15, then:

Opal Telecom FF1600 Pre 86
MGOC Classes A & F
Europa Sports & Saloons
Toyo Mod Prods
Opal Telecom FF1600 Post 86
Citroen 2CVs
MGOC Classes B & Z
Kumho TVR Tasmins
Classic Clubmans

Should be a good meeting - the Europa Sports and Saloons look well subscribed!

Nice to see everyone at Oulton on the weekend. Finally got to meet up with ChrisY and v.breifly Maisie.
Great to see Dave, KayBee (without the bag of curses) and CrazyStu too. No Harry though ?
Not a bad day, all the new bits on the car held together and the rain held off till it was time to load up.
Chris - mail me sometime - would be quite interested in the 2CV 24hr

Nice to meet you at last, Tony Saw you make up a place on the start, but then we were called away - how did you get on?

Best place to look for info on the 24hours is www.2cvracing.co.uk - there's a whole section on it. Looks like it's a bit oversubscribed this year though - there's a lot of drivers who have put their names down as 'looking for a drive'

As for my day at Oulton.. Well, after having 'intermittant' brakes and a loose wheel in qualifying, I started second to last, but kept my car firmly on the ground this time (must have been the extra lead weights!) and finished in 9th place overall (which was 7th in class) out of 17 starters. Not bad considering.. I'm going to do some serious work on the brakes before the next round though.

Quite a race - we 'only' collected 3 suspended tows at Island, plus a massive tyre wall rebuild - how can 2 Maestros do so much damage going uphill out a slow hairpin?

It rained. A lot.

No, it was OK for the most part.

Excellent watching the 2CVs and the MGs out there, though!

Nice to see you again, Tony; we somehow missed Chris, Maisie & Logrence (which post were you on, Log?)

Where was Harry? Maybe he gets nosebleeds if he travels too far north......

.....and Mrs CrazyStu won a prize in the marshals' raffle.....

We also saw the lesser-spotted Paul Perkins.....

Well qualified last after just the min 3 laps and a hot engine, (turned out to be leaky swirl pot). Start was OK but then as those in front moved out of my way (as they should of course) I was faced with an RAE with a broken half shaft and going nowhere so had to lift off quick. Yep - did make a up a place then lost it again, had a close race with Richard Marshall but couldn't beat him so finished 12th, not too bad I guess. Certqinly missing trhe power of the A Class engine. Looking forward to Brands.
Many thanks to Dave B for coming over at going home time, getting out of his car in the P*****g rain and helping push the car on the trailer. Funnily enough it stopped raining just as we finished loading up...
