Yeah I am remembering now it was a crystal set and I think you could solder in a transistor powered by a little battery that improved the performance.

Well we will have to have a cheap hobby when the 'depression' (now reclassified) really bites in Chris and anyhow if the depression does'nt get us look at the Croft post as it seems others are more intent on stopping us persuing the sport we all love.

BTW I should prehaps add membership and registration for CTCRC Pre 66 races is just £25 which in the historic scene must be a bargain.

Yes but you still get to eat the same amount of burgers at the club free barbies as everyone else!

So that makes it around £200 for annual membership then?

For the full membership unfortunately yes but for full Pre-66's about £140 or £25 for a taster of three rounds for all championships and that includes the BARC fee. The BARC fee incidently does not end at the the end of the calender year as the CTCRC does so you generally off set it.

Not suggesting this is expensive (necessary costs, are what they are) but I do think we need to be careful how we diseminate info. FWIW, full membership of the CTCRC is £85.00 see http://classictouringcars.com/phpBB3...hp?f=31&t=1254 to download the form. You will still need BARC membership. On that form is Al's Pre 66 membership of £25.00. As a saloon/touring car racing club, you can't fault them. As I've said, due to logistics its more cost effective for me to run less events for longer track time so I run with Masters Top Hat. I've got the opportunity of four 45mins races (Snett, Brands, Combe and Mallory Park) at £450 each plus a 1 hour at Spa Entry - fee unknown. I don't need to be a member of the BARC or any other club and my registration fee is £195.00. |

It was a last year £105 Peter now £110 http://www.barc.net/membership/types_of_membership.php.
As some of our meetings are double headers and you can have a 2nd race in Pre-93s for £100 and a 3rd for £75 and I think even less for a 4th you can come and have a weekend racing with us and probably get more or as much for your £450 plus if you flunk one race or get a problem you will have other bites at the cherry, get you long distance race wrong or have a silly problem and you have blown a lot of money for nothing, I know which I prefer! |

Yes, Al but the cost per se, isn't an issue and I wish people would drop it. If you want to race you race no matter what the cost. If you can't afford it the car stays in the garage. That's the credit crunch bit.
So, for what I expect to spend this year (it will cost me more) I'll get around 12 hours of practice and racing. 8 of them in my car and the rest in another.

He's selling a club though, and is not alone in doing that in here. As grids diminish, the louder this will get across the board. However, I can't remember who it was, but there was a quote some years ago (the original Mr Foulston?) who said crowds are interested in starts and finishes only. I tend to agree, the longer distance races where excitement is held to the end are rare indeed.. |
