BARC Classics at Mallory - 17th June
OK, which of the many regular Classic competitiors, and which of you hardy spectators are going to be at Mallory this weekend?
its the first time I've been to Mallory for about 5 years, and the first time I've seen the BARC classics, so I'm looking forward to both. |

Well I should be there with the Rover , done plenty of laps there in small nimble cars , but in the Rover just 8 laps and then the two words that sprang to mind were 'oil'(someone else's) and 'armco' which I hit backwards having left half way round Gerrards courtesy of the aforementioned black stuff........

Ooops - nearly missed this thread on the next round of the Classic series - yes we WILL be there, we will, we will, we will, - I think...
The Haggispeed is getting back together. Chassis is done and painted, all the suspension bits are now back home and painted (no time for plating) fit bearings and so on and put on car tonight, most of the wiring, extinguisher, pedals etc are all back in. Repaired one wheel myself and a new outer front arrives tomorrow, bit pushed to get the new tyres fitted in time though. That just leaves the setup - which if it's going to be done vaguely properly will take all day Saturday, then off to Malawi Park 5.00am Sunday morning, huh - easy peasy really.... Oh and if you're lurking around here somewhere - THANKS CHRIS |

Hi Tony - good news - keep burning the midnight oil....if you are pushed for getting the tyres fitted you can leave it until Sunday - I have just checked with the boys from BMTR and they will be there from about 8.00 am onwards and can swap any over!

Also I figure I'll need 4 wheels on the car to get it on the trailer anyway! Not a big problem, it's just I have a good tyre place locally that does my fitting and balancing for free but he doesn't like me to take stuff in on a Saturday as it gets a bit busy. |

Great, I look forward to catching up with you all over lunch, provided we get a decent break. Well done Tony, sounds like a lot of hard work, and Slowcoach, you're #80 right? See you all Sunday

Hahahahaha Mr Harman - so although I didnt manage to talk to you I watched your race - how was it for you ? Did you have fun ?
I had what has to have been my 'busiest' and most exciting race yet. Qualified 8th , 4th exiting Gerrards the first time but ended up 6th , couple of bumps (no damage) and a very ,very close near miss - but thoroughly enjoyed it !! Plus we were one of only two races out of seven not to be red flagged - alot of expensive machinery written off !! |

Slowcoach.
Don't leave me in suspense. Which expensive machinery got written off? And was the Gp 1 race red flagged or what? |

The only races not redflagged were CT and......group one , which was won by Brian Stevens from I think Graham 'skid' Scarborough. The first race of the day , Classic and Historic only lasted half a lap when three Cortina's lost it , which from my reckoning meant two Lotus versions written off , one with every panel wrecked -except the drivers door! The second had the whole back end flattened , level with the back window , and the GT looked pretty bad too. Then late in the race the big pale blue Zodiac also went off and stoved the front in very heavily , I dont think they could even shut the back doors on it ! The post historic lost two Escort mk1's early on and although they were both drivable (all the previous cars were craned or lifted away) they sustained quite serious damage. I didnt see much of the other incidents - but thankfully I didnt hear of any injuries, other than to wallets!!!

Slowcoach,
Thanks for that. To be honest I'm not really too surprised about the Historics. They do seem to be getting more and more wayward. The only time I've received deliberate damage to my Capri is when I've been overtaking (in one case lapping for the second time) a Historic car i a mixed race. Either they've got more money than sense or they've got the brains they were born with .... and no more. The post historics are generally a little more sensible. However Mallory Park requires respect (I'm not thinking about the sad events of two weeks ago) because its virtually flat out until standing on the brakes at the hairpin. Things are bound to go wrong under those circs. |

Hey Marshal , good to meet you Sunday - thanks for coming and saying hello ! Did you have an incident free day ? I think most of the action was the other side of the circuit.

Nice to meet you all too - its good to put faces to names. I really enjoyed the day, lots of good racing, Iwas kept plenty busy waving th blue flag and the red of course Percentage wise I think that was a new record for a meeting I've been at. And you were all so well behaved in the morning....

Hi All - Good to meet up Marshal - even gave you a wave as we came down to the grid, Saw you too SC, don't worry about not seeing the race - my worst this year, first time I've finished lower than I qualified, I think it's really down to size of B***s through Gerards, I got caught up with some 'B' Sports off the line which slowed me then kept losing time through Gerards, by the end of the meeting I had improved my time a lot but it was a bit late, still have to sort out the handling though, it was very nervous on the turn in.
Off to Ty croes this weekend, just received the regs - poor entry for a lot of classes, still at least we only race on Saturday so will be home for Sunday, then it's a loooong break till Lydden, might try to get some testing in. |
