F1 musical chasirs again - Glock to replace Pantano?
We could see yet another driver change in China. Grandprix.com are reporting that Timo Glock may replace Pantano in China (and for the balance of the year?).
Our sources suggest that we are likely to see a change of driver in Shanghai with Giorgio Pantano standing down and Timo Glock taking over as team mate to Nick Heidfeld. It is not clear whether Glock will be replaced as the test driver but that does not look very likely. Glock did a day of testing last week at Silverstone in preparation for China, which seemed odd at the time, as usually the regular drivers would have been very keen to do the work, as the team does not get to do many tests. http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns13538.html |

Pantano has been solid, but I think Glock is a better long-term bet.
Are they doing this to get him "bedded in" ahead of next year, I wonder? Good luck to Timo - after Montreal he deserves the opportunity. |

Grandprix.com have a habit of coming up with stories like this - they've put 2 and 2 together, bu I'm not convinced they've got it right - there's also no word on whether such a switch would be motivated by performance or money issues.
Pantano's completely failed to live up to expectations this season - I appreciate that the car's difficult to drive, but he's rarely been on it's pace, and has been off the road far too often, with a couple of silly mistakes recently. |

Autosport reports the same thing - they're usually on the mark.
There's a also a quote from the Jordan team saying it'll make an annoucement about drivers on Wednesday - something which is not done at every race! |

In that case, something probably is afoot. If they were only announcing a change for 2005, they'd probably do so at the track, to maximise publicity.

Don't like how things are going on at Jordan.

I'm sure I read a rumour somewhere that Glock was being lined up for a race seat next year - possibly with some backing from Deutsche Post. It can't do any harm to stick him in for the last few races this season.
(could be completely wrong of course ) |

My guv'nors went up to the Jordan test day last week, in the pits and all that (lucky ), and they said that the team held Timo in very high regard.

If Deutsche Post are being wooed again, a Heidfeld/Glock line-up for 2005 could do no harm.

It wouldn't do their hopes of results any harm either. Glock looks like a good prospect, and Heidfeld has been back to his best this season, keeping the car on track and picking up results where possible, keeping his head held high and always trying.

I hope it's true. Glock seems like an interesting driver. I'd like to see how fast he can go in Shanghai. I think Montreal showed that he can adapt pretty quickly, although it was just one race.

Another piece of well-reasoned thought-out analysis there Alesi. Probably an element of truth in it all the same.

Both Rosset and Pantano came into F1 highly rated from F3000 and both didn't live up to their reputations.

Rosset's another one in my 'where are they now?' file. Anyone care to help? Not heard his name since he drove for Tyrrell in their final season.
Glock did well, Pantano's not been great - but the Jordan's A. Hardly a great car, and B. Not a good long term prospect for Timo or Nick unless Deutsch Post are planning to buy out most of Eddie's shares. |

Everyone is labelling Pantano as a failure, when in fact, its the car thats failed him!
What the heck has the highly touted Heidfeld done in this dog? Absolutely nothing, except that he kept the damn thing on the track alttle more often. And yet he's so highly regarded by so many here as being something special. Glock will be nothing special in this car either. All these last minute changes are amounting to nothing. F1 has become like the Roman gladiators, as they keep feeding the drivers to the tigers. "Bring in the next Christian!" |

Good to see Bob get that opportunity - his drive at Spa in F3000 was very special.
