STCC 2002 Entry List

STCC 2002 preview
STCC 08/03/02

The entrylist for STCC 2002 has finally been released, and as you can se below there is a total of 13 cars entered. Another 10 privateer cars, more or less, are also entered, though not all of them listed in the official list. More news about that later. Audi, with the reigning champion Roberto Colciago, comes with the largest team. A total of three KMS prepared Audi A4 Quattro's will be on the grid of this, probably, very last competitive Super Touring Car Championship of this time.

Audi, Volvo, Opel and Honda are all represented with official backing from the manufacturer while the Vauxhall team isn't. Though Vauxhall is not to be counted out from the title battle considering the skilful team, the budget and the drivers Lindblom and Karlsson. Other strong contenders are of course the Volvo team with the veteran Jan "Flash" Nilsson and newcomer Edward Sandström behind the wheels.

As we witnessed last year the Opel's were very quick and there is no doubt that they will be this year as well. The talent Mattias Andersson will drive on of the now confirmed two black Opel Vectra's. Who will drive the other car, or if it will be run from the start of the season, is still unclear.

Honda will be represented by Thomas Engström who drove a Chrysler Stratus last year. All though only represented by one car Honda and Thomas will for sure be a hot contender for the titles. Thomas will get strong support from the legendary JAS-team. Though not only manufactur supported cars can contend for the race wins. As we whittnessed last year in form of the stunningly quick Tobias Johansson there is a number of privateers certainly up to grab some race wins. The season starts at the 10/11:th of May at Mantorp Park, stay tuned for more news!

this is fantastic news about the STCC. So many good cars and drivers. Now all it needs is global TV coverage.

The STCC (Swedish Touring Car Championship) won't be broadcasted in the UK. Only in Sweden, Norway and perhaps Denmark...

What happened to him? Well, he is there in the entry list, driving for the official Volvo team as usual... He finished second in the championship last year...

twould be cool, can't see it happening though.
Super Tourers take second place now in my eyes, they're too technical and you can't really race them banging in to each other (not too hard) without breaking something and retiring. The new BTCC cars are great i think.

No, he isn't. He is still employed in for Volvo. Though Sandström got his seat in the STCC and Hanson got his seat in the ETCC... So he is doing testing and development for Volvo instead hoping to get, as Volvo them self say, out racing in europe 2003...
