British Rally Championship Glory Years

Will the British Rally Championship ever reach the heights it held throughout the 70s and 80s ever again, where works teams and world championship winning drivers were a regular on each of the Open events?

Throughout the 70s, prior to the Drivers title starting in 1979, Britain was the place to be, and even in 1979 and 1980, the BRC was arguably just as tough if not tougher to win than the WRC. And through the 80s, probably till about 1988, it was very strong. It picked up again under F2 but that wasn't the top formula.

Will it ever reach those heights again. I personally really hope so.

I agree with you that it'd be good, but I think we're going to need more money into the sport. This year's format had the makings of a good idea with the Grp A, Grp N and S1600.

One problem was the numbers of bigger cars were limited to start off with and by the time we got to the Trackrod in Sept there were hardly any left. And we could do with more manufactuers at S1600 in addition to the single makes titles.

Maybe it needs to be combined with the Irish Championships
