More AstroTurf destruction--It was Korea a couple of weeks ago, now Shanghai and it's only 15-20 minutes in.

Anyone would think the FIA took 50hp away from the 458 before Fuji, not a meagre 5ltr of fuel capacity, been way off the pace the last 2 races.

The crowd is in the main grandstand. Nowhere else.

First Toyota stop is a full service. That is good news for Audi.

Looks like the fans are in one small section of the main grandstand.

#1 Audi was purple in sector 3, may be faster than the #2, but I don't think that Allan will lay over for the #1 as he's trying to fight for the drivers' title, no matter how slim those chances may be. If Audi want to win the race, they may have to invoke team orders to have a serious shot.
Also, one thing that might hurt Toyota is that if they single stint tires, their full service stops have on average been about 5 seconds slower than Audi all year. |

Audi gained a bit by their quick pit work.
The gap is down to 16 seconds after 28 laps. |

And now it's back up to over 20 seconds.

Lapierre's last lap was 1:52.970. The lap times really depend on where the car comes across traffic.

61 car went 33 laps and 1 hour 11 minutes before his first pit
If he can go 1 hour 12 min, he can do the race on only 4 pit stops. |

That might be possible. The first stint always includes a lap from the pits to start and a lap behind the safety car.

I don't know if the old 2:1 ratio of caution vs race speed laps work on sportscars, but DFI systems really work their magic when the engines are under partial load. Audi said that if it rained at Le Mans like it did in '01, provided that they could keep it on the road, that the R10 at LM in '06 could've gone god knows how long on fuel, and with the R8 in '01, Audi ran some pretty long stints with the DFI on that car.
Even with gasoline engines, DFI systems are a huge advantage because they can really save up the fuel on part throttle. #61 Ferrari had a quick (albeit unscheduled) in and out on pit road with some possible issue. |

So when Toyota first pit, the gap was around 20 seconds, now coming up on their 2nd stop it looks like the gap will be 30 seconds.

They need a minute fifteen minimum to get their final fuel stop.
