Who is Ralph Firman and how come he is possibly getting into F1 at such a ripe old age? |

At the risk of drawing an unfortunate comparison, he's doing F1 in exactly the same time in his career as Eddie Irvine did. It's been a path which has taken him as far as he reasonably could in European formulas, before he went to Japanese championships - and stuck.
He's been making a name for himself in Formula Nippon, the Japanese domestic equivalent of F3000, and in the Japanese GT Championship. I don't know if this is as true now as it was then, but Eddie Irvine once said that he didn't need to get into F1 for the cash, because a European star in Japanese single seaters could earn bigger money by appearing there. As Eddie and to a lesser extent Ralf Schumacher brought a Japanese fan-base with them when they came into F1, I wonder if there is some of that in the thinking behind Ralph's mooted Jordan drive? |

RF will do well,
Takuma Sato was from F3, maybe that isn't the best example. I've been in RF's house, i was about 5 and someone i know held a party there, i would've gone in his pool but i was sick! Come on Ralf! |

Ralph Snr has sold up I think. I guess the commentators won't call him Junior, tehy enver do with Villeneuve although his uncle has the same name and also raced (both have won CART races of course)

Well, I've never seen Mr. Firman drive, it sounds like he has reasonable credentials, so I'll reserve judgement.
Formula Nippon is rubbish, though, and so is the JGTC, as far as driving talent. I mean, total rubbish. |
