Shame , if that car had gotten some of the BoP breaks that are doing the rounds these days , it well may have been a happier story . Loved that little car .

Time to bump this thread to the top, as Spyker has just announced a collaboration agreement with SMP Racing and BR Engineering.

I honestly did not know the company still existed... reminding of the resurgence of Saleen, from the ashes of nothing there's suddenly a press release...

The first two models, and finally C8 Laviolette wasn't the greatest of cars, but it lived in the final years of non-BoP GT2 and participated without ever whining, which was admirable. Even IIRC some podiums against the F430 and 997. Run with Audi engines, too

Not sure if SMP wants to venture back into ACO racing with all the crap they've been served in the last few years in LMP. And it'll probably be GT3 anyway

as far I remember spyker declared bankrupt about 6 years ago, maybe SMP boss is trying to recreate a high-performances russian brand as marussia motors tried to do in the recent past...

anyway "russian style" is strong in this:

Boris Rotenberg, owner of among others SMP Racing and BR Engineering

SMP racing doesn't actually even exist... like g-drive it's just a team name for a hired third party operative team. BR engineering = dallara.

Yes the "team" is always operated by someone else than what the banner says (LMP2 and GTE were AF Corse satellites, LMP1 was ART GP), but while the BR Engineering moniker was used for both P1 and P2 constructor titles, only the P1 was built by Dallara, the P2 was not

I see, but the point is that BR Engineering, despite the name, isn't actually an "engineering studio". BR lmp2 was designed and made by some third party and got the BR badge on the nose. If am I not wrong BR lmp2 head designer is the same of 908HDi.

Probably smoke and mirrors, but it's my favorite flavor of smoke and mirrors. Hope it comes to fruition

wasn't aware about that, anyway if a judge declared a bankrupt null it may not be a good new at all for the company that applied for the bankrupt

That much is true that there is as much self-produced Engineering in BR as there is in DKR Engineering

I think sometimes we can be a little picky about who does what for some of these teams. Yes ART and AF Corse ran SMP branded cars, and yes the BR01 was constructed by Dallara. But it was designed by Cantone specifically for BR.

Technically speaking, Joest ran the Audi Le Mans project and the majority of Audi chassis were constructed by Dallara (later R18s being YCOM).

truth lies somewhere in between, dallara and YCOM were hired mainly as carbon tub manufacturer, but audi lmp1 cars were designed and developed by audi sport assisted by joest guys as well.
BR "engineering" effort was just put BR stickers on cars designed, made and developed by someone else. The whole SMP racing is actually just a gimmick.

Around the world there aren't many carbon specialists studios able to produce carbon tubs for racing cars, so most of them work as "OEM" supplying carbon tubs (or part of them) to requiring customers.
At example all GT500 carbon tubs are made by Toray Carbon Magic and then supplied to nissan, toyota and honda. Dallara produces haas f1 carbon tubs and bodywork parts. Also 2014 ligier lmp2 carbon tubs and other parts were made in italy (according to some old rumors)

Except for the BR01, which was not designed by Dallara. The BR1 was, though.
The BR01 was designed by Catone while working for BR Engineering. There was a piece about it in a French magazine (Auto-Hebdo or Sport-Auto? I can't remember)

That BR01 was at first not run by AF Corse either, but was later on.
At that time they also switched car numbers.

AFAIK, SMP has a French base, dating back to a Formula Renault 3.5 World Series team they took over.
That was run by a former French driver turned team owner (Guerin, Besson ?) and a few in-house projects were run by what remained of that organization, from France.

Most of the times, like you said, "SMP Racing" is run by someone else (AF Corse, AVF, Russian Bears, Baporo, ART, ... )

I know BR lmp2 wasn't designed and even made by dallara, but as said since BR engineering isn't a real "engineering" studio, that lmp2 basically was made by some other party, difference is that we just don't know the name.
Yeah remember to have read somewhere that SMP racing european HQ is in france, and as far I know SMP current main activities are racing in gt3 with af corse and use their sponsorship to support russian drivers in F2, F3 or even indy... at least I remember there was a SMP car in indy in recent past.
