Only heard James Allen. but he did have me in stitches with his 'That's Coulthard flashing through the swimming pool' or words to that effect.

Didn't here John - but they're different disciplines. The 5 Live guys, John and Morris Hamilton, have to describe the scene more - where as on the TV you can seee for yourself. If Jonathan had to become a TV commentator, everyone would complain that he describes the obvious - and by the same token if James Allen was put on 5Live people would complain even more than they do today as he wouldn't be able to tell us what was happening!.
I would say John Legard at the end of the day - but I'm not voting on the poll though |

Only ever listened to Legard commentate once and that was when ITV decided not to show the 2000 race from Indy live. But mainly from reading his articles on the BBC, he seems to be (like JA) another hardcore TGF fanboy. Ben Edwards is far better than both.

I only heard James Allen, but I agree with Asp that it's difficult to compare the type of commentary needed on TV and radio. That said, nobody could really be much worse than Allen (what was that "Let's go raciiiiiiiiing!" thing about at the start of the race? ). I'll add my vote for Ben Edwards!

James Allen is 1 of those REALLY enthusiastic ppl, who in the end just gets annoyin! dont really listen 2 5live unless i have 2, and as ppl have said, u cant really compare the 2 types of commentary! I cant critisice as i would probably b useless at the job! mayb ITV should experiment with different comentators and let the public decide who we like best!
