E-I seems to think different about the Alphand team.

With the current number of GT1 teams rumour it will probably a half-points race, making it impossible to get ahead of Oreca, even with a win and a no-show for Oreca. So they might as well stay home and spend the money next year.

Rumor? Where in the rules does it state varying points other than for race duration? As to this being a rumor, would not the ACO/LMS want to keep this as a full points race to encourage teams to participate. Heck they already extended an invitation to the other "LM" series seems like they would be shooting themselves in the foot to not make it a full points race!

They are not going: http://www.endurance-info.com/article.php?sid=4204

They don't want to participate in a race that is 1.6 times longer for 2 times less points

Oreca and Larbre are not going either.

Here in Portugal, the team sended a press-release to the Portuguese Autosport newspaper and others, that says that they won't go Brazil because the car owner, the gentlemen-driver Miguel Paes do Amaral has some professional duties in the same weekend… and nothing about the strange things that happened in Silverstone, or even some budget difficulties for such a voyage

Here in Portugal there a very small interest in the Le Mans Series, even if a Portuguese driver (Pedro Lamy) is preparing himself to be the next LMP1 Champion (if nothing happens in Interlagos), but, the few who follow the championship, believes that it´s probably some egoistic thing on Amaral, because he is the car owner and if hi doesn’t race in Brazil and the team wins the championship, we won’t be champion as well…

Well…it’s only what the fans think…

The issue is they cannot be champions anyway!!! I do not think Amaral or the team can be motivated knowing that.

Yes... i´ve read it, but officially thats not the team's excuse to exclude Interlagos... Anyway, it a fact that it would be extremely difficult to recovered the 6 point difference to RML, and it seems that ASM already achieved the LMP2 preselection do Le Mans, and that was probably the number one objective for the season, so... GO LAMY!!!

Speaking to Mike Newton at Silverstone, RML will win the championship if they don't go! The half point rule makes this a farce IMHO. If they turned up there would be more than 6 LMP2's therefore would have to race for the win, so by not turning up and only half points available to the winner, RML get the Championship by merit of having enough points after Silverstone!

Is this really necessary for an International race series????

Half points are part of the regs. Had this been another European race, this would not be an issue. The fact that it is a (very costly) flyaway race with extremely limited/virtually non-existant travel support is the problem. Ironically, this arises out of the unwillingness of the FIAGT crowd to do race and the need for Ratel to get out of the deep hole that he was put in.

I don't think RML & ASM are going. Has it stands only 4 teams are going in LMP2 so only half points will be awarded. So RML could win LMP2 & not turn up.

Maybe they wouldn't announce that up front. Such as, if the turnout is poor then the points get cut.

From what I understand, in 2004 the LMES gave half-points for the GTS class at the 1000km Silverstone because only 5 GTS class cars started the race (4 finished).

Just to clarify..........

The Le Mans Series regs state that if less than 6 cars in a particular class are entered to take part in practice for a round of the Series, half points will be awarded.

Thanks Bentley, and indeed at this point in time it looks as if many classes will be half points. GT1 for sure with only 7 regulars and 2 certainly not going (Luc Alphand'd C5R and Modena). I can foresee no additions to that list coming from the ALMS either....

Hmmm, 6 and less, or just less than 6? Because six cars did practive at Silverstone, but the A-Level 911 Turbo did not make the start due to a blown engine.

Yes, you're quite right........

I only have the French version of the 2007 regs to go on. There is perhaps a degree of ambiguity as to what is inferred by "aux essais", but I take it to mean 'Free Practice'.

This is what it says: Néanmoins, si, dans une même catégorie, moins de 6 voitures sont admises Ã* prendre part aux essais, les points seront alors attribués de la façon suivante: (There is then a chart showing the points awarded under these circumstances.)

Free Practice = Essais Libres
Qualifying = Qualifications
Race = Course
