Gibbs to Toyota (confirmed by Kyle Busch)

This is major news and a huge coup for Toyota...

Quote:
By MIKE HARRIS - The Associated Press

FONTANA, Calif. – While Joe Gibbs Racing officials remained mum Friday on the anticipated switch from Chevrolet to Toyota, Kyle Busch was more than happy to talk about it.

Busch, who will leave Hendrick Motorsports to drive for JGR in 2008, said he got a call from the team earlier this week confirming the change.

“We were just always kept in the loop on what exactly was going to happen with that and, when they finally made their decision, they went ahead and called us,” Busch said Friday at California Speedway, where he will race in Sunday’s Sharp Aquos 500 NASCAR Nextel Cup race.

Asked what the call was about, he reiterated, “That they were going with Toyota.”
Quote:
“Looking at years past in different series, you’ve got Toyota who came into CART and tore CART up in a few years,” he said. “Then they came into the IRL and tore the IRL up. They’ve come into the (NASCAR) truck series and they pretty much own the truck series now.

Geez, I wonder what Coach thinks of that...surely he could have kept his mouth shut for a few more days....

Anyway it's good news for Toyota

Shrub should have kept his mouth shut. It is a sign of disrespect pre-empting the boss....but then, I would expect nothing else from him.

Yeah, got to say, it struck me as rather odd that Kyle is leaking this. Surely Gibbs will want to make the "big announcement" as it were?

Bizarre.

However, that aside, this will be exciting to see how Gibbs and Toyota progress together.

With Gibbs going to Toyota, the small team Hall of Fame racing that they supply equipment to will be going with them to Toyota. It also looks like they will get J.J. Yeley to drive for them next year.

I wouldn't count the switch from Pontiac to Chevy a manufacturer switch, because all that they had to do was change the front grille and badges to make the switch.

Which makes it all the more hard to believe how quickly JGR decided to jump to Toyota. Especially seeing that there were other teams with closer ties to Toyota (*cough*Ganassi*cough*) that didn't make the jump.

Shall be interesting... seeing what Vickers and co can do in the toyotas when they make the races... wouldn't be a surprise to see JGR performing like they are this season in 08.

Reutimann may not be back next year and MWR could only have 2 teams. There's been some rumours circling around the #00 and nothing definite has been set for next year as far as I know. BDR is also losing sponsorship for the #36 so its hard to say what's going to happen there.
