F1FansClub should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Hi Folks,

So what PS2 game do you guys think I should get? It's either a PS2 game to look at until January until I get my PS2 or a PSOne game which I could play at the moment.

The games I am thinking about are:-
(Playstation unless stated otherwise)
  • Driver 2
  • Fantavision (PS2)
  • Silent Scope (PS2)
  • Colin McRae Rally 2
  • Red Alert 2 (PC)

Thanks,

Ally Mitchell

Well I can vouch for Colin McRae Rally 2 as being worth buying.

Driver 2 is very poor in comparison to the original. Don't get Colin McRae 2 now - I guarantee it will be out on Platinum in the next few months. Fantavision is too short-lived.

Go for F1 Championship 2000 or Theme Park World for your Playstation 2.

Do you mean it's not significantly better than the original, or just that it didn't make you go "Wow!" like the first one did?

I have both, and I find the ability to change cars a major difference in gameplay.
I also think it's just a little more difficult.
The last level in the original; "Presidents Run" was a complete arse to finish. I've already encountered three levels like that in '2', and I think I'm only half way through!

The road layout, with curved streets and obstacles, is also another plus in my opinion.

Just a thought... A sequel to any game will hardly ever have the same impact the original had. As long as there is a reasonable improvement or strategy change in the game, I will get it.

I now have 76 games, and most of them are in the rotation pile!

I was going to say you were not easy to please MF, but then I remembered you like Muppet Racer...

In relation to Driver 2, I had the demo and switched it off immediately. The frame rate is so abysmal it renders the game unplayable, and the graphics are so unbelievably shoddy.

Although I do agree - a sequel to a gaming classic such as Driver will never have the same impact.

F1 2000 Season is very good on the PS2... I know... I've goot it!!

It's not brilliant, but it is a ggod example of what the PS2 is really all about.

2 good one's to go for on the PS2 are:-

Timesplitters (Hilarious multiplayer fragging)

and

SSX (Snowboarding with jumps, stunt's and graphics that will make your stomach lurch)

F1 2000 is not a good example of what the PS2 is about. PS2 is about pushing the boundaries of videogames into new areas and depths - whereas EA seem to think it's about flashy graphics and not much else.

Sure, F1 2000 plays well and looks great, but it disappoints in that it lacks ANY innovation WHATSOEVER. They couldn't even manage a safety car or variable weather.

It's not that bad... but I do agree with you about it having no original features.

One thing I find quite worrying about it is the fact that when the car is exiting the pits, the car seems to drive through tire barriers in a most ethereal way!!

And another thing... When you start the flying lap in Qualifying, why the hell does it start you off in 1st gear when you are travelling at 180 mph??!!

Let's face it, in a real car the Pistons would soon be having a chat with Valve's if that happened!!

All in all, Its quite good for the PS2's first serious racer, but it could be better.
Lets just hope that EA get it right with NASCAR.
