Boys boys boys...

You don't think anyone at ITV is that interested in Formula One to bother looking a fan forums such as this do you? (Just look at who they hire as their 'knowledgable' staff)

If you want Allen ousted, take a petition to ITV direct...maybe use one of those online petition things (they never work) - or start a website or something, selling 'Sack Allen' T-shirts & Banners or something...(with a petition on it).

Otherwise, just listen to the bloke every odd weekend 'til he retires at 77 like dear Murray.

I will never understand the complaints about Allen. I could never believe that a guy like Murray could be involved in a F1 broadcast, he was horrible, absolutely horrible. I was so happy when Allen took over for him. I'm not saying Allen's perfect, but it's a 10X improvement over what we use to have to listen to!

I don't mind Allen that much, but saying he's better than Murray Walker is sacrilege!

They should keep Brundle and get his sometimes fill-in Mark Blundell alongside him full-time.

I have never liked James Allen's commentary on the F1. Sometimes he just sounds like he's never watched the sport. I think he tries to get the casual viewer more interested by explaining things, but it just doesn't work somehow.

Come on! Why is this bumbling old fool treated like a god?
Cause he's old and charming that's why.If he'd been kicked ouy years ago we might possibly have a REAL replacement instead of another bumbling fool

At least with Murray, he knew how to make a dull race exciting, and when he got carried away or misunderstood a situation, you knew it was out of sheer enthusiasm, rather than trying to make things exciting for casual viewers the way James does.

Ben Edwards would be perfect for the job, but we've been almost unanimously saying that since Murray announced his retirement plans. However, when one UK tabloid paper ran a poll asking the viewers who should take over, the top 2 chocies were Jeremy Clarkson and Tiff Needell, so be thankful for the small mercy that neither of those were chosen.

Conversely James Allen makes me sleepy when tyres are flying about the screen.

Clarkson would have been interesting - it'd be good to have someone who'd stamp their opinion and their personality into the role of commentator.

One of the things that worries me about the proposed new qualifying format is what ITV will do with the spare 20 minutes between the two track sessions...Will we be subject to 20 minutes of inane drivel, or will they perhaps televise JA and MB playing scrabble?

Well ever since that race in 2000 where for all know he was watching a totally different race altogether, he has just annoyed me. I don't like either of MB or JA and don't understand why people only seem to want one to go, when its both thats needed.

Well we get that with James Allen anyways.

It's just he doesn't have a personality.

Colin....

The general consensus seems to be Martin does a good job.

I don't think you'll convince people otherwise.

I add my vote to the Ben Edwards and Martin Brundle line-up.

No Martin is the main one who needs to go.

He is CLUELESS!

Perhapps he needs to watch whats going on in the race before he talks.

My udnerstanding is that around the middle of 2000 (when a couple of his commentaries were below his usual standard) Martin brundle had some family circumstances which needed sorting out, and wereunderstandably playing on his mind throughout the races.

For a commentator, like a driver, a couple of bad races in eight seasons is nothing to worry about - I would excuse Martin for that.

I don't think most viewers would've noticed any problem anyway - MB is popular with the viewers.

As for James, well, he tries.

Ben Edwards has consistently proved himself commentating on F1, CART, Touring Cars, F3, even Speedway.

I hope over the winter, ITV decides it's time to change.
