Pantano in trouble?

Pantano not driving in Canada?

Quote:
Giorgio Pantano is having to sit out the first practice session in Montreal because of a dispute over money. Pantano is committed to paying Jordan to drive for the team this year and the money is in place but it seems that there is now a dispute over who is going to run his career in the future....

He's managed by Brask isn't he?

Timo Glock will take over if this isn't resolved, I assume.

Yes, his manager is Brask (see article on grandprix.com)

And yes I think Glock will take over if Pantano & Co don't pay.

It'd be a shame, because Pantano has the potential to do well bt a lack of testing, a difficult car and Heidfeld's strong form have made him look bad. There's no way Glock can do as well.

I am sick of this money sh1t getting in the way. All the FIA would have to do to stop it would be to introduce a rule "each team must nominate 2 drivers for the whole season before the first race" with the only get out being force magure (ie injury).

Yeah, then drivers just wouldn't have to pay after they were nomimated - leaving the teams stuck over a barrel.

You'd lose Minardi & Jordan before the season even started.

Calling yourself 'courageous' seems ironic in this case, as the small teams have real courage. They do everything they can do have 2 competitive cars on track, and that means the odd driver change, but what's the problem? At least it means a range of drivers getting a chance, and ensures some interest down the grid while Ferrari cruise at the front.

Glock went reasonably well in practice yesterday.

He's potentially a big star.

Autosport have confirmed it. I think Timo deserves a drive, his friday times have been quite respectable. Pantano has been something of a disappointment after his record in F3000, but he doesn't really have the best machinery at his disposal. No word yet on whether its just for Canada or the rest of the season

It will be interesting to see where this develops from here.

Autosport is also saying that its a dispute between Brask and Pantano's family, which seems strange, I would have expected it to be a dispute between EJ and Brask. I think if Timo performs well, Pantano may be out regardless of any disputes.

Germany overtakes Italy with 4 driver son the grid again then. It's rotte for Pantano but hopefully Glock can do the job. Judging by the Fridays he's competant but unspectacular and not 100% ready, especially as he doesn't know this track.

Surely Pantano doesnt know Montreal either, as F3000 didn't race there?

Exactly.

Most drivers will never race on this track until they make an F1 debut.

Pantano drives in F1 because of his money. Not because of his talent. It's a shame Baumgartner and Pantano, for instance, drive in F1 IMO. When they are out of cash they will be out of the race. Can't feel sorry for that.

Glock was a poofteenth off Heidfeld in qualifying wasnt he... and admitted to not pushing at 100%... hardly blown off by the team leader!

Pantano was in the team because he got backing this year, yes, but he certainly has the track-record and credentials to justify a place on the grid.

He's been a winner in F3000.

To compare him to Zsolt Baumgartner is nothing short of ludicrous!

As for Glock - he was a second off Heidfeld in qualifying, which given the circumstances was a reasonable effort.

Just thinking - does this count as a "1st retirement" in the fans comp for Pantano?

Thought not. Bugger.

Well, if he is that good, we don't have to worry about his f1 career than, do we?.
Nah I don't think we will see much of Giorgio and I won't miss him at all.
