I don't subscribe but I saw what I think must have been the 'November' issue in Smiths the other day. Or should we be on to December by now?
Let's hope they're still going... |

Did you just see it whilst walking past Ian?
OR Did you read it and pop it back on the shelf? |

I read the circuit racing content and popped it back on the shelf a couple of minutes later...

The November issue should have been out around 25th of October, but Ingear claimed that printing problems delayed publication. I got mine last Thursday.

It takes me longer than that just to flick past all the Formula 1 content in an average edition of Autosport. InGear arrived a little late this month, but arrive it did. And lived up to its knack of providing reportage on things well off the beaten track. I kinda like that. |

Ian, obviously none of my stunning reports in there then! Glad to know you are all buying the mag-which hasn't paid any of it's regular contributors since MAY!! Lets just hope that things are sorted very soon as this is now not funny.

Indeed - methinks this is the real reason why their has been high contributor turnover and why the amount of circuit coverage has taken a fall.

Its such a shame-here is a magazine which has/had huge potential let down by bad organisation. It could become a huge hit but proper race meetings/events/subjects which we all want to read about are not covered as they should be-a whole page devoted to a production car trial on some farmers field will not win readers. A weekends mix of saloon/single seater action with the same coverage would certainly prove more beneficial.

Hmmmm, i live on the hereford/worcs border and am delighted that some of the lesser/grass roots action is covered. brother in law has trialled in the past and he's thrilled to bits with coverage. After all i thought the whole idea of the mag was to cover all types of club motorsport not just racing? there's plenty of racing covered in other mags
and i want to see variety. Seems that there's always loads of racing in it anyway?! Should i go ahead as planned and get my race licence early next year i've seen enough of the mag to know that i've got a good chance of getting a mention at some point!! Excellent. I'm not sure i want, or need, to know about one or two other issues as it's none of my business! I just want to keep reading a quaility magazine whatever it is and whoever writes it. |

Chunterer, if you don't need or want to know about the other issues, then disregard them, but this is a forum, and some of us posting here are (or maybe were) contributors to Ingear. I agree, it looks a quality mag, but the issues that you don't consider your business will maybe seem more important when there's nothing much in it anymore, or it disappears completely.

Sadly, Chris, buying a copy is a major task, and, James, I'll save you the ordeal by telling you that I couldn't find any competition in it.
I showed my copy to Jeff Bloxham at Brands on Saturday (even he'd never seen it before) and his first comment was that there didn't seem enough adverts to make a magazine of it's size pay. |

Well if you look at the setup the big two mags have for ads (each with a team of people dedicated to ads) and you start to wonder what chance the smaller operations have.
However it would be a huge shame to see ingear die. |

I agree - it would be sad if it fails but reading these comments it doesn't look good! maybe the publisher could use this forum to put our minds at rest. I took out a subsrciption as I had heard about it on this forum but never seen it in the shops - so without tentenths I would not know it existed, seems a marketing man would not be amiss...

Didnt it start initially as a website?
The existing InGear website http://www.ingearmotorsport.co.uk/ seemed to stop dead as soon as the magazine was launched, A better idea maybe would have been to keep an updated skeleton site pointing you to sunbscription details and a thumbnail of whats in each edition a bit like they do with Vintage Racecar http://www.vintageracecar.com/default2.asp |

Ditribution is one of their biggest problems at present. It seems that if you live in the west country you will have no problem in getting a copy, but if you live i the south then its a major problem. Unfortunately this is out of the publishers control and has obviously not done them any favours but I think (and hope) that they are trying to get that sorted. An "advertising" person did "help" with the mag many months ago but the person didn't get the required results-since then I can only presume that time and money have prevented a full time person from being given the task. A lady in WH Smiths at Lakeside said that they only get 4 or 5 copies each month which is ludicrous-which sugests the wholesaler is not doing their job at all well!

In my area, I've only found it in WH Smith at Lakeside (the first time I had something in it I bought all 5 copies, Baz, but I've grown up since then {August}), and Martin McColl in Corringham. I've also picked it up at Smiths in the Fort Shopping Park in Birmingham during my frequent business trips.
Where do you get yours, everybody ? Subscription ? I once subscribed to a touring car magazine -it was generally on sale before mine came through the post, and went tits-up after about five issues, so I'm wary about committing cash up-front. Also - I contribute to the damn thing, and I still have to part with £3.25 ! |

I have picked it up at a random Shell garage near where I work! Which I find very surprising. I think they only get one or two copies and I've not seen it for the last couple of issues (at a guess)!

Just spoken to Ingear to thank them for their cheque for services rendered.
The problems with the November issue have had a knock-on effect with the December edition. No firm plans yet, but there could provisionally be a combined Dec/Jan issue, which they want to have available for Autosport International, starting January 8th. So, they've had problems, but they've not gone under. |
