memory card size

What are peoples opinions on memory card size? I opt for a couple of 1gig cards and some 512 MB as well. My view is, although the larger 2 and 4 gig cards are great (ie less swapping around of cards 'in the feild'), surley you are putting all your eggs in one basket?

If the card fails when using a 4 gig you could loose a days worth of snaps?

Use a mixture of 1GB and 2GB cards not had any failures yet I have 7 cards (3 x 2GB and 4 x 1 GB) that just about gets me through a day of shooting

That must be one of those 48 hour days! How many shots do you average in a day?

And how long does it take you to go through them when you get home?

Makes my single 1GB card look a bit feeble really doesn't it? I've got to get another card though, just in case mine goes loopy when I'm out and about.

Well the question is what images are you shooting? If you´re shooting 12mpix RAW images , 1 GB is way too less. I am shooting 6mpix JPEG and two 1 GB cards were allways enough for me , i never ran out of space.

And theres allways the Laptop in the media centre to unload the cards

Having had a couple of 2gb cards fail on me after a day and half's shooting I'd recommend using lots of smaller ones, certainly no bigger than 1gb..as you say dont oput all your eggs in one basket

Yep, I think lots of smaller ones.

Image wise I fire off a 1000'odd, I give the racers a DVD of the event, so pretty much take a couple of each car every time it comes around - and yes some are over a couple of days. As a result you may have a couple of qualies and a couple of races. I probably use 50 / 60 candid around the paddock as well, and at 1 to 1.5meg a shot it soon adds up!

It takes me about 15 hours to get them all off, batch converted, sorted into driver folders then uploaded to the web site.
