Nice run. We know he was proving a point! Remember this was Jensons second time in the car. Also they are not just out to set fast times.

Go Ant Go. Keep burning off the Bunsen. I don't care if it's testing - I don't care if they were driving down to the supermarket. Do it every Friday test session next year. That will be Ant's best avenue into an F1 team. Into the Lions Mouth (I am quoting Kirk Douglas) God, I would have loved to have seen Rennen's face.

I just checked - Jacques best time the previous day was 1.22.146
Yeah!! I guess Ant has two points to prove next year, not one.

Steady lads early days!...Rennen's little note book shows me that Ant's previous best lap at Jerez (back in May) was 1.22.40...so he &/or the team have improved.

I was down in Brighton all day...I was driving along the seafront when Ant called to say...the "weather was c..p...and that his times were on a par with JBs"...that's all he said!...So only just found this thread tonite (here at one in the morning...yawn!)

A fan told me he didn't do the final 30 mins of the pm session...due some sort of technical hitch!

Tomorrow his ole Japanese karting chum Koeske Mattsura (from his senior International days as a Biesse kart team driver) is having his first run in an F1 (alongside Ant)Koeske came a very close fighting second to Gary Paffett in the German F3 champs this year.

Ant will be very helpful to him (as he was to Ralph Firman)

Now lets see how the new cars do!

If Ant can consistently put better times down in testing for the new year it would be probably political reasons that would keep him out of the BAR seat or any other F1 seat. On the other hand as far as I know its not testing that determines if a driver will get a race seat. Testing is to give excellent feedback not to just run fast laps. JPM said that was one of the turning points in his F1 career so far. He realized he needs to work more on relaying info than just seeing how fast he can go.

Anyhow testing is nothing to go by who actually believes that last years BAR can even come close to RS in the BMW?

The way I see it, slow times doesn't necessarily mean the car is slow - it depends on what they are testing. But fast times means the car or the driver or both are fast, no matter what they are testing.

Of course I totally agree, its just nice for BAR to actually let Ant go for a hot Lap for a change - also feedback on qual spec set ups is crucial too - something BAR hardly ever test it seems.

BAR's official press-realise tells something different, that Ant drove 'only' 1.21.8

Ha, yeah I saw that too! BAR's own PR trying desperately to minimize what a daft decision Dodgy Dave appears (at least in the eyes of the general public) to have made? blimey I'm a cynical git! - but probably right anyway.

Wait I dont understand why anyone would think BAR is attempting to undermine Ant. Most of the sites that I have visited say Ant ran a 121.8; sites like f1-live and f1racing.

No, I did not follow Ants young career. No I did not see him battle JB. However, what is being suggested is that BAR is so unstable and insecure that they have to sabotage their own employee. If they did not think he was good they would not have hired him. Who knows he may line up with JB in 2004 but until then he has a job to do and so does Button. If nothing else, Button has the adventage of three active years in F1 as a racer. Anyone would have chosen him over Ant. for a driver at this point.

Well, how do you like these for apples?

Sunday's times from Jerez:
1. Anthony Davidson - BAR - 1:21.000 – 78 laps
2. Mark Webber - Jaguar - 1:21.551 – 47 laps
3. Fernando Alonso - Renault - 1:21.646 – 21 laps
4. Sebastien Bourdais - Renault - 1:21.763 – 46 laps
5. Franck Montagny - Renault - 1:22.175 – 33 laps
6. Kosuke Matsuura – BAR - 1:23.162 – 37 laps
7. Antonio Pizzonia - Jaguar - 1:23.637 – 17 laps
Please note, all times unofficial.

These are the times from the final day's testing at Jerez. Any comments are welcome. God!! I'd love to see Rennen's face when he reads this

I never read much into early winter testing. The important stuff will come when all the cars are running full 2003 spec early next year.

For now the teams are testing new parts in hybrid cars (and some using existing 2002 spec cars). I always wait until testing in late Jan/early Feb. Only then do I jump for joy or pray that things will get better for Melbourne.

Roll on March!

To be honest, I have never paid any attention to testing times before; my motto being testing is testing - just that. However, in this particular case, I am interested in teh differential between Ant and Bunsen as well as Jacques, because if Ant consistantly posts tims which are faster than the other two, it is not going to do him any harm - other teams might take notice of his ability. I do admit that this is a bit of a long shot.
