Interesting names on silverstone GT3 entry

Peering through the provisional GT3 entry list for this weekend, I notice a number of handy drivers are slated to drive.

Stand outs for me are former touring and sportscar ace Klaus Ludwig, ex single seater coming man James Ruffier and all rounder Marc Sourd in Calaway Corvette Z06's. Then there's Porky specialist Jurgen Von Gartzen and ex F3000 pedaller, Vittorio Zoboli down to pedal Reiter Gallardo's.

Also there's Frenchman Gilles Duqueine, who along with his brother Dominique built and raced their own F3chassis in the mid 80's and will be sharing a Viper with Anthony Reid so that ought to be a stong tip?

Tiff Needelll runs a Barwell Aston, Calderari and Bryner are in a BMS Aston,
Allan Simonsen in a Ferrari and there's also Richard Stanton/Aaron Scoot's Ascari to think about.

If their cars are all upto it, there's a good field of pro drivers to do battle.

What's the latest on form & pace of these things?

You might be right!

In fairness, most of these guys are sharing with an amateur driver, and these make up the majority of the entry.

Still it's good for us enthusiasts to be able to see some good old names out there?

Being a gentleman driver means paying your own way: car rental, tyres, fuel, insurance and, in this case, a talented driver to share the car with you. I don't think this goes against the concept of GT3. If any of those drivers mentioned were sharing cars with each other, that would be a different matter. Is there anything in GT3 rules that require at least one driver to have not exceeded a certain performance level e.g. a certain number of class wins in FIA GT, ALMS or LMES?

I notice that there is a "Steve Warson" down to drive one of the French 911s.

The Viper piloted by experienced Anthony Reid is the fastest at the moment.

The times posted by some of these cars are pretty good compared to the GT2cars i think.

A 1.54 is none to shabby when compared to the GT2 Panoz most 996's or the woeful lambo GT1.

Race 2 is running now.

Live T&S is up.

http://www.mstworld.com/live/livetiminggt.html

Simonsen appears to be in a class of his own in the damp with the Ferrari. Almost two seconds a lap faster than the field.

Seems to be quite wet at the track now. The T&S feed is showing some pretty weird stuff going on... IF it is accurate. Lester appears to have had an off, lost a minute, and now is back in the lead... strange.

Nice finish by Zonca and Ceccato, taking positions from the Ferrari on the last lap. Ceccato had a nice charge the last few laps, as did Khan. Looks like an exciting race.

Zonca was penalised for contact with .........welll with most of the field really and dropped to fifth

A pair of very good races indeed which made the main event look a little underwhelming to be honest!

Watched the race on Live T&S. It's a shame that these organizers can't get live streaming feeds going.

We were watching at Chapel as Zonca executed his 'harpoon' manoevre. Ceccato was already through into second when they passed us.

You're right Graham, GT3 was a real hoot, great fun. I reckon it's going to be a huge success, possibly becoming bigger than FIA GT1/2. Certainly it appears to be a formula which would work well on TV!

Sadly, the wet first hour and changing conditions were the downfall of the main event. The field was too strung out, too early. We lost track of who was where very quickly and had to resort to the radio commentary within about half an hour.

Just want to say though, the Zakspeed Saleen was just awsome. It was worth going just to see it, I loved it!!

Hey, you forgot me lol!

Arron Scott and Ben Collins are 2 very fast professional driver and they were in the same car, call that fair!?

Anyway, we beat them on Saturday

Your right about the weather, not very nice for the crowd, but it looked good on tv (the part that I watched at least lol).
