I wonder if the huge crowds that used to turn up when I went to rounds in 98' will re-emerge.

The BTCC in 98 used to play host to 30,000+ and peaking at 50,000 for some races (notably Mansell).

I couldn't help noticing how bad the situation had got in 2000, at both Donnington meets there were no more than 12,000 at best.

Also at the final round at Oulton PK the inside of Lodge is normally jammed full, - it was empty.

the crowds were huge in '98 & '99 due to the huge successof the Toca games. however toca failed to capitalise on this so the numbers dropped bakk down.

I don't think the success of the TOCA games had had real effect on the crowds on race day. People will only turn out if the racing is good. If the basic product isn't there, neither is the crowd.

The tickets was expensive, now that is not going to happen this year! If the BTCC can produce great racing and great looking cars then do expect the crowds to come back but you need famous f1 drivers like Mansell to do a full season. Even though i was always a supporter of the btcc it was always because of the racing.

Excuse me but not a lot has changed. Silverstone Btcc is a lot dearer than Powertour, Thruxton are charging for paddock - Brands is a little cheaper this year.

But don't get me wrong - it is still great value for money.

Ah but considering that the Brands Hatch tickets were expensive, they have taken the price down by 25%. Well i am not going to be a business man to make it more clear.

If they want to get the crowds in early on in the season then they are going to need the big names, guest racing, to draw in the crowds.

Hopefully the quality of racing will be so good that later in the season once people have seen a couple of rounds on telly, the crowds will return because of the quality of the product.

im going 2 go to oulten park neway but the only reason that i got 2 like touring cars was that i brought the TOCA games and thought they were great.so i rekon that the games did have something 2 do wif the attendances at races
