graeme should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
European racing

I've raced in Europe a fair bit over the last few years (Spa, Dijon, Charade, Zolder, Zandvoort, Croix, Nurburgring, Le Mans) but would like to get to some new venues. Are there any hidden gems of circuits I'm missing - and would I be able get an entry in a not-very-powerful Caterham? I guess I'm thinking of places like Chimay - which it seems I've just missed by a couple of years.

I don't know about Chimay. Their schedule doesn't show any races for historic or modern cars apart from the kart cross which is in just two weeks as well. I don't know of any other ones either. It all depends on how far you want to travel.

I think Chimay lost its FIA licence a couple of years ago, so just 'bikes, karts, etc these days. I'm thinking Western Europe (I bet there's some great tracks further east though - I remember seeing a sidecar race from essentially a road circuit in eastern Germany a few years ago, which looked fantastic) - 6 hours drive from the Channel? I guess there's just no chance of getting into Angouleme, Pau or the like...?

Oh yes of course, Schleizer Dreieck near Schleiz in eastern Thuringia. Still hosts a few cae races and two international motorcycle races. It´s more like half permanent but a great circuit nonetheless. A bit far away as you mention tough. Getting to Pau to race is pretty useless this year as no race is held in the city this year. There´s a permanent circuit nearby called Pau-Arnos. I believe Angouleme stopped too.
