Spa 24hrs 2006

Okay so the 2006 Spa 24hrs is now just over a month away and IMO it is looking like being the strongest yet. Zakspeed have had their performance begged back by the FIA in the form of the rear wing size being reduced by 142mm thanks to teams protesting that the car is too fast after Round 2 and Brno. The new Porsche 997 will make its debut in the FIA GT championship in the Spa 24hrs too run by the Manthey team with factory Porsche drivers.

I wonder if the race will have any additional entries from British GT/Belcar/Spanish GT etc? On the GT2 side of things Id not be suprised to see LNT enter their Panoz after their sucess at Le Mans, also perhaps we may see Eclipse with their Mosler? As for GT3/GTC I really dont have a clue. Will be interesting to find out too how much live coverage Player intend to give of the race, hopefully we will get all the race live and in full as was announced at the media day. It is a good sign that Player showed a signifcant ammount of live TV coverage for Le Mans this year. IMO.

Whos going to win? Personally I think one of the Vitaphone MC12's or perhaps the Zakspeed Saleen if it lasts the race.

i want to go for sure. Went in 2004 and it was an amazing weekend.

Spa 24 hours is one of motor racings best kept secrets i think! Great atmosphere!

Does anyone know the current line up so far?

is it right that the bmw z4m and 997 gt3rs are going to debut here?

thanks again,

Anybody know if there will be online coverage, streamin video or audio or if radio le mans does any coverage? Unfortunately in the land of nascar even 2:45 hour alms races get cut down to 2 hours and tape-delayed for the middle of the season.

maybe larbre will race to but not sure yet. it said on the care racing website that larbre would race at spa but i cant find it on the website again so i dont no. big questions to be raise/ answered are

will the astons last the distance in competitve positions ie. podium

will the bullet proof reliability of the corvette/s enable it to win

and weather zakspeeds smaller rear wing will render them uncompetetitive over 24 hours

im sure in a month and a bits time we will know

Thanks guys, should be interesting to see who shows up and what times are produced. Only a couple of weeks to go and then we should have a clearer idea of the actual grid it would seem.

Although not going this year, there's a group of us planning a 2007 trip already. Looks like an excellent race meeting.

Can anyone confirm whether camping is available at the circuit?? I've looked on various websites, and it's not obvious.

In general, the entry list is revealed during the test day. But this year, this one comes earlier than usually. Therefore, there will be still several modifications I think.

News from Belgian Magazine Turbo Mag : Manthey will engage 1 Porsche 997RSR in the Belcar race of June 29 (the car not being approved yet by FIA, it must to dispute 1 race of a national championship) with Duez-Tiemann. Concerning Duez, it has 3 possibilities for Spa: Porsche, Konrad Saleen and SRT. At Corvette, at least 3 will be at the beginning (1 C6.R GLPK, 1 C6.R PSI, 1 C5.R SRT). The final crews at Vitaphone will be: Bartels- Bertolini-Van de Poele on the 1 and Davies-Biagi-Vosse out of the 2. unofficial information: Larbre will entering 1 Ferrari 550 just like Cirtek (Russian Age Racing) will entering a 550 Ferrari.
Maybe Oreca will entering a Saleen S7R but that's also unofficial.
But for shure, we will see a great grid on the 24Hours of SPa!!

@ Fan24hspa: Where did you see that information about Marc Duez that he has those 3 choises 'porsche-konrad saleen-srt corvette??

Most campsites around the track will be open again, I guess. They were so the last couple of years so why not this and next year.

www.dailysportscar.com are also reporting that Pouchelon are entering a GT3 class Viper in this years Spa 24hrs, drivers are Ian Kahn, Anthony Reid, Paul van Splunteren and Maxime Dumarey. Looks like a strong line up for a GT3 class machine, I wonder what the best result a GT3 car can expect is? In 2005 the top G3 class machine finished in 10th overall.

Be interesting to see how many GT3's will enter the race? cars like the Ascari, Gallardo and Viper would make valuable, and different additions to the grid.
