TID BITS

This weekends event is the 8th year the Indy Racing league has attended Pikes Peak but its the 9th IRL race to be held there , in 1999 there were two rounds held both won by Greg Ray

even though Qualifying was a wash out its interesting to note that no one in practise got near the qualifying record of 179.874 mph set back in 2000 by Greg Ray.

Last years event had qualifying washed out by rain as well ,Tony Kanaan inherited that pole as well thanks to his qualifying speed

Scott Dixon is the only current driver who has tasted victory at Pikes Peak but the list of winners in the event is quite impressive

1997 : Tony Stewart
1998 : Kenny Brack
1999 : Greg Ray
1999 : Greg Ray
2000 : Eddie Cheever
2001 : Buddy Lazier
2002 : Gil DeFerran
2003 : Scott Dixon

Chassis wins are leaning way in the favour of Dallara at this track

Dallara 6 wins
G Force 2 wins

Darren Manning equaled his best finish again of 4th place , its the 3rd time he has finished 4th and is looking for that elusive podium.

Interesting race and good to see Toyota and Chevy were sort of in the hunt , but when it came down to it Honda were again the engine to beat.

Yeah the brits had a great day. Well done Dario Franchitti and Adrian Feranadez they diserved the poduim. Dan kept his title hopes alive Buddy hasn't. When will Tomas Scheckter every finish a race in a points finish. A bit disapointed as my racing hero Hornish lost it does anyone now what caused the spin, any way great race. Looking forward to Nazerth.

Buddy's just as much of a challenger as Dan, especially if AGR start favouring Tony, which they might do if he has a bad result or two (and he is overdue some bad luck, in fairness).

Great day for the British guys, as you say, and lovely to see Lazier and Barron in the top 10.

Yeah, I think Lazier was the surprise of the day. Nice result for him, and it could go along way towards securing that seat for him!

Also Giaffone was very racy early on. Fell back badly though.

Good run for Manning, nice and clean, with no incidents. He is easily a far greater threat than Dixon to win one at this point. Dixon is a mess right now.

T Bell had an unusually quiet race, didn't he? And whats left to say about Tomas? Can it get any worse? He does have a good attitude about it all though, I'll give him that!

Thought Sam and Helio looked like winners here for awhile, but again, it wasn't meant to be...

Panther's luck that they had been having over the past few years has finaly turned on them, shore they have been exstreamly unlucky esperly Tomas Scheckter it can only mean Tomas will have a good season next year if Panther wish to keep him.

Have Panther been lucky in recent years? I'm not so sure their resutls were more than the package as a whole (especially the driver) deserved.

It's a shame Penske couldn't hold it together, I'd love to see a non-Honda winner again. Great race as a whole, with some impressive drivers, and a few 'minnows' up the order.

2.4 seconds would be the closest legitimate margin in F1 all season - here it's a country mile!

No fears TK will have a bad spell before the end of the season.

Why do you say that?

As each race goes by the probability of him having a problem decreases!

I'm not so sure. Some years, it just all comes together for a driver, and this year seems to be the one for Tony.

On the other hand, there's Scheckter! When nothing goes your way. I saw him on Windtunnel last night, and I've got to say, his attitude is outstanding, considering all thats gone wrong this season. He still believes in himself, and his team, and he knows he can win here. He's a very positive guy.

When Dave asked him if he'll be back at Panther next year, he couldn't or wouldn't answer that question. I don't know what I would do if I were Panther. They've got a tough call to make with Tomas come seasons end...

I'd keep him.

He's driving particularly well, of late.

If they get a race where it runs smoothly that may open the floodgates.

Can they afford to keep him though?

Tomas is probably a future champ somewhere, maybe here, and while I agree he's very quick, fearless, and he knows how to get the most out of his car, his repair bills have been astronomical since he has come into the IRL. You wouldn't mind paying that out, if you got the results, but as of yet, he hasn't.

On the other hand, T Bell has gotten some great results, with little of the problems Tomas has had.

Thats why I think they have a tough decision to make.
