LMP2 - New Group C2

Is no oone else excited at the prospect of the new 'closed' LMP2 cars. It could be a return of Group C2 when we saw lots of wild and wacky designs from manufactuers who did not have the funding to enter Group C1.

The Spices and Ecosse were some of my favourite Group C cars and it would be great to see some small closed LMP2 prototypes.

It shouldn't be that difficult to do- the minimum dry weight for the old C2 class was orginally 700kg, later increased to 750 in 1989.

The Ecosse JAG mentioned was around 760-770kg with a Cosworth V8- the Rover V6-engined version they ran in 1986 apparently got down to around 720kg...

If the LMES takes off I can see smaller manufactuers building closed cars. Major manufactuers will not bother.

Well, I would be excited if we had some manufacturers. I was a fan of C2. Great cars.

How did I know id fine Aysedasi in this thread? Honestly though yeah it would be great if we had some manufacturers in LMP GTP 2, the thing is will we have any LMP GTP 2 class cars at all? Let alone manufacturer backed. Personally I dont think it will happen in 2004 or 2005 - but perhaps beyond that.

Could somthing like an Ultima be run in LMP2, or even a Radical?

I like the idea of the Radical and it's ilk being entered in proper endurance racing. I think a sub-2 litre class should be revived.

There is that pesky crash testing to be passed before one can enter LM. AFAIK, neither Ultima nor Radical have submitted cars for testing.

That's too bad, because an affordable under 2-liter class is what LM, et al needs IMO. The current 750kg class is nearly as expensive as the 900's, so where's the incentive?

to follow up on Osella's point - isnt that what Britsport's trying to do? I appreciate this is a club series rather than international but its a start!
