British Sprint Double Header at Kirkistown

The two British Sprint rounds at Kirkistown over the week-end saw a huge number of mechanical and 'scenic' disruptions to the entry.

Roy Dawson fell by the wayside when the rear wing on his newly acquired Gould collapsed whilst he was hammering through Debtor's corner at over 150 mph.

Stewart Robb backed his MP58 into a bank at Craigantlet on Saturday after posting a super third place on Friday's Kirkistown.

Simon and Tracey Ashby had a valve spring break on Friday but with Tracey in the run off and desperate for points she managed a VERY slow run to pick up three valuable points. After fitting new springs on Saturday and giving the car a run at the Kirkistown Track Day all seemed well for Sunday, however on her first practice run Tracey had a further problem an oil seal blew out and deposited the contents of the sump round the track. However she was instantly offered a drive in John Sampson's Quantum Xtreme and again qualified for the run-off and grabbed three more points!

The Olivers ran trouble free on Friday; then on his first practice run Bill had a rear pushrod let go and spun off just after Debtor's. Team Oliver, ably assisted by Tony Ellis, managed to get the car repaired! Bill got in just one timed run and qualified for the run-off only to then have the replacement pushrod collapse!

Steve Miles was on of many newcomers to Kirkistown and took a creditable fifth place on Friday. Sunday saw him qualify third fastest only for the Zetec engine to refuse to fire up for the run-off!

Peter Howgate and Brian Woffenden had the throttle slide fracture on Friday but a trip to Davy Francis's farm got it welded back together. Sunday and the throttle cable broke! However the Sheffield Duo rolled up their sleeves and just managed to get one timed run a-piece which got them both into Sunday's run-off.

A couple of the Irish contingent also suffered mechanical problems; Robert Morgan had his Opel V6 engine develop a nasty misfire on Friday which saw him out for the rest of the week-end. William Loughridge broke a driveshaft and CV joint at Craigantlet on Saturday and with no spare packed up and headed home.

With Ulster's John Leinster winning both rounds and Tony Eyles second on both days the SBD Motorsport British Sprint Championship has a new leader in Tony Eyles.
