I've recently seen two people swear blind that it is definitely a) Julian Bailey b) Carl Fogarty.

I always thought Foggy was taller than that? And given the aggressiveness of MG's marketing at ther moment I'm sure if it was Hughes he'd have an X-Power logo on the overalls somewhere.

I'd have to say that all the available evidence points to Perry more than Nikolas. He's about the right size, he's a decent driver, he's (as far as I know) otherwise out of work at the moment, and anyone who's ever seen him doing hospitality work at LeMans will know he does a very good "bad" french accent.

Stig is Derek Warwick
British Has driven everything from F1 to sportscars to BTCC Isnt the smallest guy about Hates Lotus after they did the dirty on him when Senna vetoed the appointment Has commentated on BTCC so has worked for a rival channel so all those clues point to Warwick |

He's also about 4 foot wider than the guy on top gear.

Well the current series of Top Gear has now finished and we are still non the wiser. Maybe we should e-mail Clarkson to ask?

I reckon it is either Damon Hill or they are changing the driver.
There was a story on the itv f1 site a while back reporting that Damon Hill had badly damaged a SL55 AMG while testing for the BBC. There was also a report in a uk newspaper saying that a 'certain long haired british ex F1' driver had damaged a SL55 AMG at the top gear test track. It is also strange how the SL55 they did have on was Clarkson's. Surley they would have no problems getting one from merc - but if they broke it then that would figure why they had to use his. But if it was Hill, why not shout about it? Meybe Hill is under contractual things else where that prevent his name being used to endorse other things? Or maybe, as someone has already suggested, they are changing the driver. I was kind hoping that in the last episode they would have a competition to guess who it is and the prize could be that suzuki car! |

1) - the argument about it being NM becuase of Stand 21 sponsorship is a bit daft as there's only a few number of raceclothes manufacturers in the world.
2) - I originally thought Damon, but I don't see why he should be hidden: he's done numerous things in the past for the Beeb. I seem to remember him doing something in a Merc for the Beeb on the motorshow, show if that was the SL55 that may be how he damaged it - I'm sure it took a rough landing somewhere (although I thought it was Millbrook) I want it to be Perry though, just to have a laugh. |

They described him as a top flight driver with F1 experience
Minissian is a joke, not much better than Alex Yoong, the BBC would not lower themselves to using Minissian Yes we all know he came 2nd in F3000 in the best car but he was an embarrasment in CART and hasn't done much better in his current series, his days as a top flight driver are over And where is his F1 experience ? unless he has tested for Prost on one occasion I cant see any f1 experience he has had Minissian is a bunny, Top Gear wouldnt use him |

I may be speaking out of turn here but does anyone really give a toss? I'm sure you'd all be disappointed if their true identity were revealed...
