I'm not really sure why Webber at Williams should make any lick of difference to whether another Australian is given a chance at Formula One.
Did you read my comment on the Keke -> Mika(x2)/JJ -> Kimi effect?

Our car industry is totally reliant upon the decisions made by boards of directors outside Australia. Australia's car market is very small when compared to Europe and the USA, so I do not think a board of directors will lean upon its Formula One racing subsidiary to pick an Australian driver (all other things being equal) so as to sell more cars in Australia.
But a company that makes this is probably more likely to sponsor motorsport than a the company that made this (and went broke) or the company that made this (and got sold to Ford and then closed down)...

Well, Jordan is testing Doornbos and Albers. If either of those two have half the credentials of Briscoe, I will eat this keyboard!

Briscoe did not miss out on the Jordan test because of a perceived lack of talent. There is your proof!

I didn't say that Briscoe didn't have any talent. I just said that Jordan will be weighing talent vs money, and the combination that'll be the best for the team will be the one he chooses (if one driver is 0.2 sec slower than another, but can bring enough money to develop the car more so it will be 0.25 sec quicker, then that'll be the one to get. And if one slow driver can keep the team personal employed all year, then that'll be a better choise than a fast guy that'll get the team closed after 5 races).

Btw. I don't think Albers is that slow, he came close to winning DTM this year... What does the Australian keyboards taste like?

Albers was ordinary at best in F3000 and hardly set the world alight in his Minardi tests. I give him great credit as a DTM driver, but that means bugger all in F1.

He's a former German F3 champion though, so he must have some talent.

German F3 was (it's been replaced by the Euroseries now) nowhere near as prestigous as UK F3, and attacted very few international drivers of note - only Jarno Trulli really comes to mind. A lot fo the guys who won the series went on to do very little.

Indeed Boots. That Michael Schumacher never really made much of himself, did he?

Albers sponsor paid for his one day test with the 2004 car. Jordan invited Doornbos to do a 4 day test with the hybrid car (2004 with 2005 aerodynamic parts). It seems that the can both bring money to the team for a full season. I'd put my money on Doornbos.

Michael didn't win in German F3, he lost out to Wendlinger and Frentzen.

He finished third behind them in 1989, but came back in 1990 and won the title.

You're absolutely right KB, my mistake. I stilldon't think the German F3 series has a great heritage, certainly not enough to mark a driver out as F1 potential in itself.
