I like DaMatta to, but for pure excitement it had to be Wilson in the Minardi. His starts from last place to mid-field were becoming legendary and he seemed to be able to get alot out of a lousy car.
I don't know what happened at Jaguar. Tough break. |

I'd would say Firman he was a very late announcement in a shocking car and out did he highly rated teammate on quite a few occaions and after a 2 gp rest came out and was faster than Fissi again .
But hats off to Da Matta he drove a soild drive most of the year without any real mistakes it should go to him |

da Matta has been pretty solid this year. Wilson ain't too bad either. This year's rookies doesnt provide the impact that Kimi and Alonso had done in their respective first years, but they look rather solid and quick enough to survive.

Im sure we had a poll on this once.
But for me, Da Matta. Wilson was fast at the starts, something which became a habit for him, but he had very little fuel on board, but a niec effort, Spain really looked like a good race for him, he was quite high for a while. Firman was very quick at different times in the year, and although for a while, seemed nothing special, he really did put in a few good performances. He seemed very confident when he drove, look at how he was not going to give into Trulli at Malaysia, and good luck passing the fellow. He was pretty interesting to watch too, quite tail happy. Pizzonia, well, not a lot went right for him. For the end of his Jaguar career, the team did not seem too behind him, and it was somewhat inevitable that he would leave. But once Wilson turned up on the scene after Pizza-boy's leaving, people were starting to question whether it was the lack of speed of the 2nd driver, or just Webber's brilliant speed. Zsolt and Nicolas were really not there for long enough to make a judgement. Da Matta was the rookie of the year, i think. He did make a little mistake which put him out of the Australian GP, but he really did have a lot of pace. Toyota liked him, and he seemed to have a lot of luck - and he was in front of Panis quite a bit - and even if he did beat his team mate probably just due to reliability issues, a putting a poor result down to lack of luck doesnt bring points to the team. |

Frankly speaking I can't remeber one sole astounding performance by Da Matta.
He took the lead at Silverstone just because of odd circumstances, but nothing special. Panis, at least impressed me at Indy in quals. |

I think Wilson. I don't rate Firman at all.

I am the same as you with regards to Firman, I think that was a big mistake of Eddie's but Wilson?
Ok fair enough he did have some good starts with Minardi and it probably wasn't entirely his fault at Jaguar but I think over the whole season Da Matta was the most consistent of the new guys. Kiesa didn't do too badly either. |

Antonio - drove that dog of a car, took all the **** and then they still shafted him. Still, at least his replacement didn't do much better so I guess we can say that the performance wasn't down to the driver...

It's rpetty close between Da Matta and Wilson in my view. Cristiano made few mistakes and coped very well with high expectations from Toyota as well as a lack of on-track testing. Beating Panis in the points,a dn frequently in qualifying, is a fine effort. Silverstone was especially impressive as once in the lead he looked like a composed veteran while Panis fell away.
Justin coped well with his midseason switch, showed a real raciness in the early laps with Minardi, and a lot of determination and fighting spirit. He really deserves a full season at Jaguar. I'd put Ralph a clear third. Fisichella seemed understandably unmotivated for much of the season, but it's still imrpessive to ahve beaten him several times. Although not always fast, even within the Jordan's limits, he brought the car home freqently. Welcome Big-O, I hope you enjoy it here. |

Da Matta had the resoruces to be able to settle it, but I would still give it to him.

I would have said Firman.......he isn't on your list though.
So out of that choice it's Justin Wilson, who managed to get himself promoted to Jaguar after some fine drives. Da Matta is a close second. |
