While the glass is definitely full for 2023, I also think it's a little odd to miss the 100th anniversary race despite having a fully designed and built car essentially ready to go.

I'm not sure the budget taps are turned on in quite the same way for BMW as a couple of others. Just my sense.

Once again, forgive my ignorance, is there benefits to BMW running a season in IMSA before joining WEC, like is there the same homologation rules in IMSA?

Well, learning the car is the benefit I suppose. Plus we have now seen that the "locked in homologation" has some wiggle room in Hypercar, so possibly they want to see how the car performs on track before hitting Le Man?

I just assumed it was because it was driven by the North American region. They care about IMSA more than WEC. Obviously they care about Le Mans, WEC is just a necessary evil for them?
And as it is NA driven the way it is starting and being built up starts there for ease too. So no great plan, more just how it is. Could be wrong. As it is just an assumption. We tend to over think these things and this assumption certainly isn’t over thought! |

BMW North America finances the IMSA LMDH program and as such they will get the first two cars to compete in 2023.
2024 rumors are Team WRT and RMG running cars in WEC so we will see. |

Yes we need some independant entries, factory efforts come and go to quickly, plus i have always had a soft spot for the underdog

If Ferrari wins in 2023 it won’t legitimize Ferrari’s victory last year because they couldn’t be bothered to enter.
Toyotas win in 2022 is legit. Whatever. |

2016 was almost a great victory but there is no almost in racing and certainly not in LM. 2017 was a disaster for Toyota. Since then it is an unbroken winning strike, with a certain connotation. At least for many fans. |

You can only beat those who turn up to race against you. The fact that Audi and Porsche ran away doesn't make the Toyota victories hollow at all in my mind....

If you are winning a wrestling competition against children as an adult person, I do not think your gold medal is really shinny just because no other adults entered. This is how I see it. Why Porsche and Audi ran away....it would worth another topic.

Not the greatest of analogies to my mind.... I take your point (of course), but at the end of the day, they have their name on the trophy. I'm black and white on Audi and Porsche. They could have stayed to take on Toyota, but they didn't. End of topic....

Hollows an even worse expression and shows nothing of what it is to compete in, finish, let alone in first place of any of these 24 hour races. Looked at it that way which years shall we say are hollow and not bother with? Most of them?!
Obviously it will be great to win when there is a bigger field including those names. But it is legit and it isn’t hollow. Just makes it even better. There is nothing they could have done about it. I suppose it is just natural and easier to look for the bad and not see the good. To stop us questioning our own legitimacy and worth? (General observation, not specific) These others can do what they want, but the Hypercar performances last year that were hollow and not legitimate are those of Ferrari, Porsche, etc… It was still difficult and there was still glory.
