DHL to become Jordan's Main sponser

As speculated by formula1.com on Wednesday, DHL look set to become Jordan's title sponsor for 2002 if reports by international news agency Reuters are correct.
The team announced that they were to launch their new car at Brussels airport, leading to speculation that current sponsor Deutsche Post Worldnet could be taking over from Benson & Hedges as the team's major partner. Their distribution centre is based at Brussels airport.

However head of marketing Mark Gallagher denied to Reuters that this was the case. He said it would "definitely not be Deutsche Post Jordan Honda."

This has now led to rumours that DHL, also based at Brussels airport and a subsidiary of Deutsche Post (who own a controlling interest in the company), could become the team's title sponsor.

This was lent further weight when a DHL spokesperson told Reuters: "I understand that to be the case."

The new EJ12 will be officially launched on February 22nd.

From Jordan...

Jordan set for February 22nd launch
Jordan Grand Prix will unveil its 2002 car, driver line-up and livery at a major press conference to be held at Brussels Airport on Friday 22nd February at 12pm CET. Invitations to media were issued on Wednesday morning, the launch being hosted by the team and sponsor Deutsche Post WorldNet. The Jordan Honda EJ12 will appear in its full 2002 livery for the first time and, as previously disclosed, it will feature the familiar yellow colours of team sponsors Deutsche Post WorldNet and Benson and Hedges.

There will be a major announcement at the Press Conference and F1jordan.com will carry the news and photographs first - so watch this space!

Immediately following the launch in Brussels the EJ12 will join its two sister chassis in being flown from London to Melbourne for the opening round of the World Championship on March 3rd, while team drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato will accompany Eddie Jordan on a trip to Tokyo to attend Honda's start of season press conference on Monday February 25th.

I know that everyone is sure that DHL is major sponser but their name does not appear on the nose or fin, although I admit it is prominent on the side pods. The name that does appear is Magna. So remember you heard it here first!

I bet Eddie's been doing at bit of cobblin' together behind the scenes, I read in the weekend papaers that they have also signed some techo firm that I've never heard of.

As said before - not much new just a shuffle of paper around the desk. Looks worrying for Jordan in the medium term, I can't see DHL or DP filling the B&H gap - I would guess EJ's budget is reduced this year.

B&H were frustrated by Jordan's lack of a British driver and probably grew weary of expectations not being fullfilled. Jordan has apparently been courting Orange - but I think 2002 will be their last year in F1 anyway - if they did stay I could see them moving to maybe Williams to put them on more of a parity with Vodafone's sponsorship of Ferrari - which would be more in line with their market battle for no1 spot away from the track.

I was stood right next to Eddie Jordan when he said he was introducing a sponsor who was completely new to F1 - he made it sound like a coup.

When I went past Silverstone the other day, a couple of Jordan trucks rolled out infront of me with TeamDANZAS.Jordanf1 Honda on the side and backs. With Danzas written in Giant letters all over the side of the Wagon.

But from what I read this is totally irrelevant.

DHL looks to be the major sponser.
The other big sponser seems conspicuous by their absence, gaps on the car where a sponser should be.Is there a last minute hiccup I wonder???
