DNQ should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Andretti at le Mans 2000?

I remember Mario drove a Panoz with Magnussen and Brabham at Le Mans in 2000 - they finished 16th, but how quick were Marios laptime?

Also, can someone elaborate on this, who was driving the respective cars?

1997 - Le Mans 24 Hrs (Courage C36), retired accident (with Mi.Andretti & O.Grouillard)

I only remember Spanish Eurosport commentators said that Andretti was more slow than Magnussen and Brabham but exactly I don´t remember.

I think it was 3-4 seconds a lap over a 3minute 40 second lap.

The courage was Mario with Michael and Gruillard.

As I recall Mario was well off the pace in 2000 but I don't have any sample laptimes I'm afraid.

The only times I have are the qualifying times

Brabham 3.39.156
Magnussen 3.41.013
Andretti 3.48.684

Andretti was not the slowest of ALL the Panoz drivers though, Suzuki (3.53.779), Kageyama (3.54.446), Iida (3.53.019), Kondo (3.54.435), Baldi (3.55.789), Graf (3.50.622). Brabham and Magnussen were out to get a fast time.

From what I was told by someone in their garage, Mario was about 8 seconds off the pace on average. The guy who was talking to me about it said they were tempted to hang out a pit board that said MARIO! GO FASTER!

But considering the age of the man, I think the fact that he was out there at all spoke well of him, and I personally saw him save the car at something like 190 mph -- and I couldn't believe it! Even a much younger guy would have had a hard time doing that!

I think in the race Mario was something like six seconds a lap slower in his first stint, although strangely it seemed to be the straights where he lost all the time. Mind you, he was saddled with a difficult car. Brabham and Magnussen had to really throw the thing around and Brabham only set the qualifying time about 5 mins before the end of the final session on Thursday evening.

Cynic's recollection is much the same as mine - about 6 seconds off Brab and Mags pace, but don't read anything into the qually times, the drivers who don't have qualifying duties are often way off the pace of the driver who does. Their only concern is going just quick enough to qualify themselves.

Mario's "off" that year at the breaking zone for Indianapolis was hair-raising. That was the year before they installed that huge gravel trap there. He was very, very lucky. In the interview with Calvin Fish when he made it back to the pits, he was visibly shaken.

That's the one I saw. My eyes were like pinwheels for hours afterwards!
