KoRN to sponsor new ALMS team

http://www.speedarena.com/news/publi...cle_5611.shtml

They had two Porsche 911 GT3 RS's to run last year before their sponsorship fell through, could be that, or an upgrade?

DSC is saying it will be a GT1. Saleen or Viper or C5-R?

A Viper ? Is there still competitive ones around ? As I love te beast, I'd be happy to see one back in ALMS, though...

DSC are also saying the team will have 2 cars, not 1. Personally my money would be on the car being a proven race winner, a Ferrari 550 perhaps. Even if it is just 2 Vipers though, its a welcome additional 2 entries for the ALMS.

Where would the team get 550's from?

Not sure if Care Racing and Freddy d'Or would lease out equipment to a rookie team

Eric Burch is hardly a rookie - he was Team Manager for American Viper Racing / Carsport America until the end of '03, but for '04 he had tried to put SpeedQuest into the ALMS (as Fogelhund mentioned).

Who said they would be leased? They could be bought.

Indeed they could, although if memory serves me rightly Larbre and BMS lease the cars, but more than happy for the heads-up with respect to these arrangements.

Yep - EB is no rookie, but the team is

haha Rich R,

But why would they put up all that cash to by 550s? Those things are darned expensive, so then we are back at the question of whether Care Racing would lease a 550 to a rookie team in SpeedQuest, not in EB.

I think 550s (specially TWO) is aiming a bit high. this is why I mentioned Saleen, Viper or C5-R.

U think a Saleen costs less than a Ferrari 550? DSC are saying the team will have 2 cars on the grid. I know who I beleive. And I woudnt mind betting too that the cars are owned by the team, not leased. This team appears to have big sponsorship behind them after all.

i personally believe that 550s are a little far-fetched, esp. the idea of the cars being bought... unless they put up SERIOUS cash, i'm pretty sure Dor is only leasing his cars right now.

i would think an American car such as the C5-R or Saleen would make more sense to me... the team owner's past experience with Vipers makes them a possibility, but i dont see a new team using such an old car in a high competition series such as the ALMS. who knows maybe this is the new Maserati team

Then again, Barbour's Lambo's are sitting around collecting dust, and purchasing them would be pretty cheap. Not what I'd call a good idea, but they are around.

Warren Mosler can't be too far from having his cars homologated either, and they would likely be more reasonable then many other options.

Yes but the Mosler's are a GT2 car. Not a GT1 machine, and the article on DSC clearly stated that the 2 cars would be GT1 cars.

i thought about the lambos as well; cheap way to go GT1 racing, but anyone who chooses a car that has been proven to be uncompetitive would be dissapointing

Why not ? if they got the cash and some decent drivers. The cars were available last year but no one had the finance for an ALMS assault.

Mid-America Motor Motorworks bought two corvettes C5R, but are not running them this year. This could be a good alternative, just a taught.

No, Mid America did not buy two Corvettes. They were to have bought one and joined with Pacific Coast Motorsports (who also bought one) to run a two-car team. MAM did not buy the car after all, for whatever reason.

It does beg the question, though, what's happening with C5-R chassis #5? (PCM bought #6) And could P+M put together another car in order to sell a pair to SpeedQuest?

If I was going to run a Viper in any series I would go for Eric Burch as my man too . He must be the most experianced viper re-builder in the history of the car ..... judgeing by how many times the american viper was crunched !!!
