Where to sell?

Hello everybody,

Looking for some help really and ideas of where to sell a collection of memorabilia and books?

The collection was my dads who passed away a while back (he was a active member on here) and the family house is looking to be sold and mum has no interest in Motorsport.

I have tried eBay but it don't seem to draw in the interest for Motorsport with low view counts.

Example of bits include

Loads of silk cut jaguar stuff (signed photos, posters, media guides, books, xjr9 windscreen , team shorts trousers, complete collection xjr magazines, scrap book.

Le Mans programmes with matching autosport lemans guides

Loads of books with rare stuff 1st editions Allen gt40 book including leather bounds, Ferrari , all sorts Le Mans etc

Goodwood year books

Nick watts frame prints and other art work , loads of posters

There is really all sorts don't know where to begin

Any ideas other than eBay? Even considered opening a online shop using one of them £20 a month systems?

Cheers

Daj

Might be worth trying to sell to one of the big memorabilia collectors, they would obviously not give you full whack for it, but they would at least understand its worth

Speak to Bonhams or H & H Auctions they normally have memorabilia lots with the car auctions.

Also I wanna know.. :)

As I have a few things that might go on sale...

Tom Kristensen's Le Mans suits (BMW 1998 & AUDI 2000), helmet (BMW 1998), gloves (AUDI signed), shoes and so forth.. and judging by what i have found so far, there seem to be quite a few companies that deal with this stuff, but as mentioned, they would hardly pay what it's worth...

That's actually why I found this forum, as the people who would be interested in things like this, surely would come to a place like this.. no..!?

It's difficult, because the owners of memorabilia often think it's worth a great deal more than it is (no offence intended) and provenance is pretty important. Kristensen race suits for example I would expect to raise a pretty penny - even on eBay, but the problem is that eBay is littered with hundreds of sellers trying to sell photographs and models - you have to look in between the dross to find potential gems. I often look and have bought one or two items over the years which I've spotted on eBay and picked up for reasonable cost. The trouble is, where else would you sell it other than auction it? And if you do auction it, it needs to be a specialist auction otherwise you run the risk of the stuff going for a song.....

Thanks a lot for the info Aysedasi... Much appreciated..

I will have a look around, and going for an auction would prob not be a great solution as you say unless it's people of specific interest coming...

Re: Where to sell

You may wish to look at Hortons Booksellers as they buy collections.
