Gonzalez signs with Herdez

This article reports that Roberto Gonzalez has signed with Herdez. Hopefully he is bringing the Nextel sponsorship.

More good news of top CART teams continuing to get ready for 2004!

Note: The article is translated by Google, so the english results are not always clear.

There is nothing confirmed here, except what we all knew, that Moreno is out. The second seat is not set and according to this article dependent upon González securing the funding. Also the Herdez website does not mention anything, nor has Keith Wiggins said peep.

Also remember González's prematurely announced he had a fulltime ride with Walker around this time last year.

Call the status "working on it"; roughly the same status as Emerson Fittipaldi's effort to buy Patrick Racing and keep that team going.

Here is my somewhat cleaned up translation. Words I added for clarification are in brackets.

Mexican driver Roberto González to replace Brazilian Roberto Moreno creating an all-Mexican team with Mario DomÃ*nguez for the 2004 season

04/12/2003 Notimex

While the CART Series continues to be a mess and its 2004 season is in suspense, Team Herdez plans to present an all Mexican lineup, with lead driver Mario DomÃ*nguez and supporting driver Roberto González.

Although in the category of waiting for the this long phase of uncertainty to end, the Herdez motorsports team is already projected to pair two Mexican drivers in 2004, becoming the first such national team to do so in the CART Series.

Everything seems to indicate that Brazilian Roberto Moreno who occupied the second Herdez car in 2003, remains out of final plans of the group that businessman Enrique Hernández directs; after a campaign in which finished in 13th in the standings with 67 points.

In the seat occupied by "Pupo" Moreno would be placed Roberto González, who already ran with the team this past one 12 October placing tenth, in the Grnd Prix of Mexico at the Autódromo Brothers Rodriguez.

Being replaced in México did not leave Brazilian Moreno very happy, whose days since then were already numbered for that motorsports team, since [Herdez] has always had the dream of running two Mexicans.

Although he only had sponsorship to run in the Brothers Rodriguez race, "Speedy" González is now in negotiations to expand his deal with a cell phone company, which would cover a considerable percentage of the six million dollars at it a minimum it costs to run a full year in CART.

In fact, this past 20th of November, Mario DomÃ*nguez and Roberto González participated together in the traditional Sports Parade during which the Mexican Revolution is commemorated, as an extension of the relation between the supporting driver [González] and the team.
