Honda - No to Rossi testing Yamaha this year
Just read that Honda will not let Vale test the Yam on 28-30 November. Said they did not want to give Yamaha any advantage. What do you all think about this?

It's petty, but the contract tied him to Honda until December 31st, so Honda have every right to prevent him riding a Yamaha until then. In the great scheme of things, it make slittle difference - 3 days on the bike won't make it fast or make Valentino any more prepared come March.

Obviously he is under contract and they can prohibit him from testing. I would probably do the same in their shoes.

Why should Honda let Rossi get a head start on beating them in 2004 when they don't have to? They are probably just trying to teach him a lesson for leaving them!

Rossi can take the break from riding and rest up for his next world title in 2004
Does this ruling by the spoiled sports at Honda preclude Jeremy Burgess from starting at Yamaha? |

Honda has every right to do is since Rossi is still under contract to them. Plus, Rossi testing early would give Yamaha that extra time to figure out the bike. Honda won't want that.

On the other hand I've heard that the price of releasing Rossi earlier than January the 1st is to give Barros back for free and forgeting about the 3 million euro 'leaving fee' so I assume that to make a concession of 3mil was too much for Yamaha and that this is in the background. |

If I were Honda boss I wolud have done exactly the same: they have everything to lose releasing Rossi; moreover he took many Honda key people with him, thus it's natural that they do whatever they can to limitate his activity.

What does it have to do with Barros' shoulder surgery? We are talking about a 'leaving fee' that Honda has to pay to Yamaha NO matter when Barros start testing, so it's perfectly beside the point.
Just for the record Barros' doctor said after the surgery that it went very well and Alex can start riding again from the middle of December. |

Honda need to focus on Rossi next season but if they get carried away with beating just him then they could really lose the plot. Ducati are very confident that they will fix the rear tyre dramas of this season and if they do, they will no doubt be a huge threat to the title. We all know that this was Ducatis only problem this season and the speed there bikes have is awesome. As I see it Rossi is just another player in what could be a tug of war for the title and come seasons end, hopefully a different manufacturer will have it. Rossi will win races and so will Honda but neither will dominate. Hondas decision to stop Rossi testing is a smart one. First point goes to Honda.

would you give your opponents even more time to get ready to fight you?????? of course you wouldn't. honda have done the sensible thing. maybe they're hoping rossi may fall off and injure himself without enough riding on the yam?
