ScottDay should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Best Formula?

What is the best Formula to start of in?

I want to race Hiatorics of some sort, but what do you think?

Historic Formula Ford catches my eye but getting the money together is quite hard!

Cheers,

Scott

Buy a mid 80s one and it can be a helluva lot cheaper. You can progress later if willing/able.

Depends on your definition of Historics. Do you mean FIA Historic championships that need an International Historic Licence at minimum or just non-current old race cars ?
In either case saloons are usually the cheapest starting point, although 80s FF are pretty cheap/strong

I was looking at the price of some of the 10-15 year old FF's in Autosport recently and have to say I was nearly tempted myself £4,000!!!! of course being a tad on the corpulent & tall side if I ever did race I dont think single seaters would suit me
Maybe you could buy a drive through an existing championship regular?

I am tall myself but i may be just small enough to fit in!!!

If not it will have to be a Saloon, such as Rally Cross!

When I was researching this question a few years ago Simon Hadfield (amongst others) recommended a Twin Cam engined Formula Two as good value as well as satisfying to race and maintain. Have had no regrets and endless pleasure ever since with a Brabham BT 21, but this may be a bit out of your price range so I would look seriously at late '60s FF.

F2 is probably a bit heavy on the pen so to speak to buy.

How tall are you Scott?

I am!

You will fit no problem, I am 6'3", and fit in my Vandiemen no problems. You would have to move the pedals, and do a foam seat etc. but shouldn;t be too much of a problem. I can fit into a Merlyn MK20 without too much hassle.

I hope he won't mind me saying this, but if Malcolm Barfoot can fit into a FF then anyone can! You may be better starting in Classic, as they are very cheap to buy and run, then move to Historics when you have got the "gist". There are some very quick guys in Historics, and they don;t mess around with preparation either.

Yes. Although he isn't big on current affairs. He thought that Jodie Foster won the Walter Hays trophy, lol. Hes a good egg.
