Morgan racers

K, I know this is from out of the distant past, but in looking for a new background I came across one of my forgotten fav GTs, the Morgan. Does anybody know what happened to drop the Morgan out of racing? I dont see it in ALMS or Le Mans anymore, no idea if it races still in any other series. Were they a factory team or privateer cars? Just love the look of them and would love to see them back in top-line GT racing.

Ranald should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The Morgon doesn't conform to FIA/ACO GT regulations anymore I'm afraid. But it is still reacing in the British GT Championship in the GTC Class. As far as I remember a Morgon competed in some Britcar rounds last year certainly the Silverstone 24hrs. There are also a good few Morgons in historic racing too.

As far as I am aware the 2002 entries to Le Mans was backed by De Walt (ie a privateer) and the 2004 entry was a works entry.
Nice to see a different type of car racing, but it never seemed that fast in my eyes.

I hadn't realised they were no longer eligible under ACO/FIA GT2 rules - what was the reason?

That stinks, I loved the Morgans'. They were really cool looking buggers.

I think they had a special dispensation to run at Le Mans because of the way their chassis is constructed. Although I could be wrong on that.

It's a shame they're no longer running in international races as the Morgan was always the best looking car on the grid.

I saw a Silver/Blue Morgan in the paddock at Donington (FIA GT 2003). It was going to race but the paperwork was delayed.

Isn't it elligable for the GT2 invitation class, as the Mosler/TVR are?

Sounded fantastic at Oulton Park BTW.

It missed out on its, FIA GT debut at Donington 2003 because the GT2 (or was it still N-GT at that time?) homologation paperwork wasn't done in time, as you said. It then raced at Spa where it ran in the G2 invitation class. It was eligible as a GT2 (or GT) under ACO regs.

You certainly can't mistake the car amongst today's cars! The DeWalt Morgan in the old GT class at Le Mans (now GT2) also ran in British GT's GTO class sometimes during 2002.

The GTC car is slightly different, but still sounds great (Jag - I swear back in '04 they ran the car much louder than they have done in '05 or '06 - it was even better then!). I'm guessing someone could still run the car in the G2 class? Isn't this one of the reasons the G2 class was created?

British GT's GTC class, for me, might as well not exist if it didn't have the Morgan and Marcos entries - they add some interesting flair to the class. Shame the G2 class wasn't around earlier - would have been great to have seen the like of the Aero 8, LM600 and Mantis in FIA GT trim regularly...
