May just have to apply to the ACO to marshal next year. God I love Group C cars and racing!

I have just seen the F1 timetable which states that the french GP is to be held on the 22nd of June, a clash with Lemans? is this another attempt to overshadow the ACO and try to break the 24 hours hold on the greatest race title. The F1 authorities have always been jealous of the popularity of Lemans but the lack of fans at the French GP was the excuse for threatening to take it off the calendar, pitting it against the most popular race in the world could finish it for good.

I very much doubt whether the same people that go to serious racing like Le Mans are also the targeted clientele for a 1.5 hour F1 parade....

Surely LM2008 will be on 14th/15th June, so won't clash with the GP?

I had definitely assumed 14th/15th - I've booked the leave already.... 21st/22nd would be later than usual - and bearing in mind the number of French people who attend the greatest Bristish Sports Car Race in France (!), there's no way they'd end up with a clash like this....

I didn't know about that.... 14/15th sounded right to me, that's why I booked the leave!

I am also assuming it will be 14th but it is still very close and the logistics involved will cause plenty of problems particually for marshalls, both events will require huge numbers of people and to have the events on consecutive weekends is very shortsighted. Also there is the testing which will be presumably two weeks before Lemans. I will only be going to Lemans but there are plenty of motor racing fans who will be keen to do both.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a clash. There is usually a GP clash and its usually much further away so a clash on the same weekend in the same country wouldn't be that unlikely.
LM isn't always the same weekend of the year, it tends to revolve around two weekends and is partially dependent on when the ACO get consent to close the roads etc. The fan base is likely to be different although as LM is increasingly becoming an "event" (rather than a motor race) it might share some punters. I wouldn't rule out a clash, very few GP personnel are involved in LM (Adrian Newy apart of course!), it's not something that F1 drivers do these days. |

It could also be a good idea from Bernie and Co. to attract more Spectators to the Grand Prix.
We have done Le Mans - Montlhery and Le Mans - Dijon Historic in past years. If the Grand Prix were on the following week we'd be far more likely to hang around having come all the way from Australia and go to the Grand Prix if it were just a few days away. Tour organisers would love it, and I'm sure there'd be more interest in Le Mans from foreign media if they knew they could "kill two birds with one stone" Right now Le Mans gets absolutely no media coverage here, but I know plenty of Journos who'd go the week early to "see what all the fuss is about" Although the prospect of the F1 hangers-on invading Le Mans does fill me with some trepidation. Please see Aysedasi's response to F1 drivers... the same applies. |

Thanks for the best wishes guys and hope you had a good day Paul.
Think the date query will be resolved by looking at what day Father's day in the UK will be!!!! |
