This is very sad news. My condolences to all his friends, family and fans.
I was just thinking of RB the other day and wondering how his recovery was going. Hoping one day to see him in a Rally Car again. He was a really strong performer and a worthy champion. Rest in Peace Richard. |

Just woke up to the news and I'm in shock. I was actually wondering how was he doing as I hadn't heard from him for quite a while. Never expected to read such news. I trully admired him a lot. What a great loss.

The news didn't come as a great surprise, to be honest, but is no less sad for that. Most of the media have treated the subject with good taste over the last couple of years, but I read almost straightaway in one, non-rallying magazine that the long term prognosis was not good.
I have an RB5 Prodrive Impreza. Great car, named after a great driver. Gone but not forgotten. Sincere condolences to his partner, family and friends. Among them, spare a special thought, too, for Markko Märtin. He was the one who was travelling with Burnsie when all this started and now he hast lost Michael 'Beef' Park as well within just a few, short months. |

I'm truly saddened by this news. I heard it on Friday but this is my first opportunity to express my sadness.
Richard came through on the back of the success of Colin McRae and as such made a big impact as the first Englishman to win the World Championship. He was a gentleman held in high regard by his fellow competitors and of course the general public. Its my belief that his general success and then his championship was instrumental in bringing World Championship rallying to our tv screens. Sadly we won't see him out there again and yet I understood he was making a recovery. Terrible news and I send my condolences to his family and friends. |

The first I heard of this was at the start of my rescue assessment - an awful start to the weekend. I only met Richard once, and very briefly at that, but he made a very long lasting impression on mind mind of an incredibly pleasant, nice polite young man. I remember watching a clip of him watching a 'moment' he'd had on Rally Australia when he was with Subaru - passing the comment form the Simpsons of 'D'oh!' - again something I won't forget, as it showed for all his talent he was still down to earth.
A very tragic loss to Rallying, his family, frineds, and fans everywhere. RIP |

I had it on pretty good authority probably two or three months ago that his health was deteriorating to quite low depths - yet it still comes as a terrible shock.
Richard Burns was already greatly missed from the world rallying community. He touched many with his talent, but also his humility and quietly thoughtful manner. Naturally, our condolences go to his family and friends. Rest In Peace Richard - they won't know what hit them, when you and Beefy are let loose in the forests up there. |

haven't been on the internet until tonight at work and so just saw the bad news.
"GodDamnit" was my reaction, not polite but my honest reaction. 7 or 8 years ago, an old friend of mine had a brain tumour removed, and had to slowly relearn to walk, ride a bike, play his saxaphone (he's a musician) etc etc, but he did it all, and so during all this time since knowing what Burns was going through, I always thought of my friends recovery and hoped that Burns's tumour was similiar and that he would be as lucky as my friend.....I hadn't heard anything for so long, and like many others here, thought it was going well.... |

I was extremely saddened to hear of Richard's passing.
He was a thorough professional and always came across as a really nice bloke. He must have battled really hard to keep his illness at bay for so long. He will be sadly missed. RIP Richard |
