Best sounding engine from a le mans car. can be from any era, full stop!
i think mine has to be from the modern era: either the 996 gt3-rs from '03 or the judd gv4/5. what a shriek that thing produces! what's yours then?

Matra...like 12 single cylinder Norton Manx engines strapped together, but running at 14,000 RPM..

I've only been to Le Mans last year - but the Panoz was as good as I was hoping for =)

The earlier Panoz cars were even better.
I've said before on here, the Caddy Seville pacecars from a couple of years ago always sounded better than they had any right to. |

I really liked the Panoz, love the big block V8 rumble. I also loved the heavenly whine from the Ferrari 333SP V12. But, to me, for the most wicked sounding, ear ripping audio, go no further than the demonic howl of the 4 rotor Mazda 787B.

Aston Martin (late 80's/ early 90's).
No question. My rib cage is still vibrating from it blasting past on the Mulse. |

I love the Judd, but the battle last year gathering the Panoz and the Courage-Judd was a must : both alltogether !
My hall of fame : Matra and Mazda |

not really. its a deeper gruffer sounding motor, reminiscent of a 911 gt3-rs but a little higher pitched and revs higher. very severe sounding on the pit straight! (ive only heard audio clips though!) it seems to rev forever and also sounds like the exhaust/intake manifolds change length at the top of the revs (like on a 996 carrera 4) as it really seems to rev hard.

Its gotta be a Courage C60 Judd GV4 ..... the 5L unit doesnt rev so much and the Riley & Scott Oldsmobile from 1996 . oh and the V12 in the back of the XJR-9LM !!!
Thats all ..... |

Any 8C Alfa from the early '30's
A straight eight woofle with added blower noise - it can't be beaten!!!!
Alternatively - the sound of the blower engaged on the Mercedes 38/220. Why - it meant that failure was only a short time away, and another Bentley victory was imminent. Duncan |

I'll drink to that, Duncan!
Actually, there's something rather wonderful about a Mercedes supercharger in full wail even when it isn't about to gift a place to a Bentley. Other favourites of mine have to be the open-barrel growl of a Jaguar XK engine in a D-Type and of course the Matra MS670. It's not a pleasant sound, but by golly it's awesome. Honourable mention also has to go to the 1998 Panoz, which had the ability to shake my head off the pillow every time it went past the campsite. |

I know will get a lot of flak but... I love the rotary Mazdas!
I have heard clips of the Matra V-12s, they were wonderful too. Links to sportscar sound tracks in the internet would be most welcome. Cheers, Muzza P.S.: Oh, I see that Fab also said Mazda and Matra - I am in good company... |

In 1991 the jag engine was bored out to 7.3 litres ..... what was it running in 1989 ? That was a wonderful sounding machine and looked great and went like a rocket when Lammers got it back after a 46 minute gearbox rebuild , brilliant !!!
