Haven't heard a bad thing about him yet, other than from idiots who just doubt his natural talent. The guy obliterated the field last year in his first pro season ever, and he's going to do it again this year, and with a brand-new team!

I want to see him in a large deep field before I can really make a decision on him. Pro Series, and especially this year's Atlantic field arent the cradle of champions they once were

Fair enough Russ, but you don't win over margins like AJ does unless you're something special.

I think Allmendinger is the real deal. Ok, maybe the pro series is not as good as a few years ago, but he walked it. Some of those guys are in the series far longer than Allmendinger, but he just left them. I know he is now on the CART ladder, but i said in another thread about American F1 drivers that he could be the one. If thats the way he wants to go, he needs to get to British F3 now for 2 years. If he wants to stay in CART, he'll be in the top series in two years.

Wrong Irv. He turned down Red Bull's money to stay with CART, and he'll make it to F1.
And that ought to finally shut up the eurosnobs. |

that british f 3 idea is to old school. you dont HAVE to do it anymore to be a good f 1 driver. there are many other series that will prepare you.

Let's see how he does in Atlantic this year and then talk. He had one dominant race. So did Michael Valiente... As well, judging by his teammate, there were really on it last weekend. Let's see where is around Montreal...

AJ and Scott Speed are at exactly the same level. Just ask one or the other. How that for an international level reference....

I don't think i'm a "eurosnob" whatever that is.
I just think that if he wants to do F1, British F3 is the way to go for him. Is that so outrageous? Am i a eurosnob? Look at the end of my post. I said if he wants to stay in CART he would be there in two years. I have nothing against where he races, he is a really good driver. If he wants CART and then F1, i'm sure he can do that, but that would be more difficult for him, never having done a european formula. You should think about the things you say and not jump to conslusions about what you think people mean. But what would i know, i'm a eurosnob, and I won't be shutting up. |

I agree with alex about the fact that there are a lot of good series that will prepare you for F1, but F3 in whatever country is one of those series. Obviously, F3000, EuroF3000 and even FRenault or FrenaultV6. Of course if you can get manufacturer backing early on or get into a junior team of some kind that makes it easier still. If it were me, I'd go F3.

The Michael Andretti experience has probably made teams wary of drivers without European experience, although I still think AJ or Ryan Hunter-Reay would make good choices once they've got some experience. It'll be interesting to see if AJ can storm Atlantics this year. Sponsorship requirements are high to get into CART, CART should be using their Entrant Suport Program to fund someone to put him in a team - maybe for a few races late this year as a trial. F3000 is another option if he wants to keep himself in the lielight for potential drives in both F1 and CART. |

I saw AJ race in formula ford in New Zealand which was part of a CART scholarship deal which Jeremy Shaw put together and before you all start jumping off the bridge i am not saying he is no good but he looked very average against the kiwis. He was up against Fabian Coulthard who won 17 of the 14 formula ford races that year. The ones he lost were to the american Brian Sellers (who i would rate far more highly)and the others to a couple of kiwi drivers. So what i am saying is looking at how young Coulthard is getting on in Formula Renault in the UK up to now, maybe AJ does need a couple of years in the UK as well, if he is to make it to F1 because i feel the UK would be the better place to measure the guys true talent.
