Simple Question - Opinions please
There aren't going to be any winners in this thread. I'm only kicking this one off to further my knowledge of the history of the sport.
What in your opinion is the greatest HillClimb car ever built. The obvious place to start is the currently dominant GR51/55. Have there been cars that have won less but could be argued to have acheived more because of greater competition? If there have been cars designed for other purposes or have blatted everything in sprinting at the same time... I'll leave you to dicide on the validity of those arguments. |

MP58's were dominant for years and were still winning things untill quite recently.....
Not saying they are the best all time but certainly something else to think about. |

Too Good!
Adrian Hopkins' Ralt RH430 which set the standard in the two litre class.
James Thomson's Pilbeam MP40 Hat which dominated the 1981 season. The Pilbeam MP43 which has been consistantly quick no matter what engine has been in the back and is probably one of the most beautiful hillclimb/sprint cars ever built. Sir Nick Williamson's McLaren M10A which won the Hillclimb Championship of 1970 then in the hands of Jonty Williamson won the British Sprint Championship in 1973. David Franklin's March 772 BMW which won both the Hillclimb and Sprint Championships in 1978. Patsy Burt's McLaren M3A which won the inaugural British Sprint Championship. Ray Rowan's 2.5 Toleman-Hart TG280H which dominated the 1985 British Sprint Championship with 8 wins and a second place. The Pilbeam MP47 which won the Hillclimb championship driven by Charles Wardle in 1988 with the glorious 5 litre Repco in the back and then won the 1997 Sprint championship driven by Roger Kilty with a Cosworth DFR installed. That should do for starters! |

We could go even further back and mention ERA which even today are still mighty competitive....
Granted in their day the competition may not have been as fierce as it is in modern times but still one hell of a competitive car.. |
