Carrie, I would go again and see for yourself. It's probably best to stick to the Saturday as it's slightly less crowded than Sunday and remember also that Sunday addmittance is by advance tickets only, you can't buy a ticket on the gate!

Try the above thread as it refers to Ten-Tenths Regalia.

Here the cars and drivers do what they are supposed to do which is race at full throttle - sideways, rather than doing ( often very slow ) demo runs up the hill. It is a wonderful experience, a trip back in time to sense what Motor Racing was like in the golden age. The BTCC and F3/GT fraternities suffer with this September fixture clash too. Many folk that I know who work within F3, F.Renault or FF for example would love to go to the Revival have never had the chance - they don't know what they are missing! Almost every person I know who has been says it is the best meeting of the year. |

Damon, I'm going to be working on post 1, thats the first marshals post after the start, so why not pop over and say hello during the weekend. I'll be the marshal with the Ten-Tenths badge on and wearing red trainers.

Is this the sort of event i can turn up to and get a ticket on the gate or is it too late?? also which are the best days to go, hate it when its too busy. Is it televised too? I've heard rumours motors tv will be showing it? any help would be good. cheers

RMR you can but tickets at the gate for Friday and Saturday but Sunday admission is by advanced ticket purchase only. Of Friday and Saturday I would choose Saturday.
I too have heard that Motors TV are going to show it live, but some will clash with BTCC so quite what they will or won't show is not too clear at this moment. |

Just want to point everyone who may not have seen it in the direction of this thread - if you're going to Goodwood, you may as well relive it on Monday! Hope to see you then!

I'd love to go to Goodwood but it does clash with other things that I've already committed to.
Therefore, what I'm about to say is not based on personal experience but on hearsay: From what I've read above and heard from other people, I get the impression that it is losing its "people's" appeal. It's becoming too serious (remember the controversy last year about Ralf and his insurance?), too money-orientated (Mansell's demands ring a bell), and it seems to have lost something else too: the chance for people to meet and "socialise" with their favourite drivers/team owners in an informal environment. Reading about the current boys and their bodyguards - and no doubt, 4 PR people in tow to make sure that they toe the team line and don't say anything controversial and remember to mention the sponsors every 3 minutes! |

Maybe you should get along and see for yourself... and then you'd realise it was none of those things! The only charges that could be levelled at it are that it is a little on the expensive side, and that it has become a victim of it's own success and it can be a little too busy for my liking on the Sunday. Other than that it's a top weekend and I'm pretty disappointed that I'm so shattered after the past week at work that I decided not to go today as originally planned. I'm looking forward to next year though!

Read my post again Craig: I said it was the impression I'd got from reading other posts on this forum.
You say it's got "expensive": well, isn't that an example of losing it's "people appeal"? What could be a great family day out has become pricey... presumably to pay for the financial demands of some of those appearing at it. I stand by my comments about it being more "serious" now. The hillclimb is supposed to be fun; yet I read about participants quibbling about insurance. I read about people being surrounded by bodyguards. I read about it being very expensive. I read about it being very crowded - especially on a Sunday. Who knows? Maybe it's because the brain is better at remembering negative things than positive things? Becoming a "victim of its own success" is inevitable when somebody has a great time. More and more people go and then it gets crowded. Plus the organisers have to ensure that they can keep up/increase the standards year-after-year to ensure the punters keep coming back. I'd love to go and get proved wrong - but it does always clash with other stuff that I've committed to. Perhaps a little bit of co-operation from the various racing bodies when compiling their calendars wouldn't go amiss so that I don't have to wait for science to progress to a point that I can clone myself to go to Goodwood, Croft, Mallory and Oulton on the same weekend! Read my post again Suzy: go along yourself and you'll realise it's none of those things! It is certainly the best thing on this weekend and I was due to go along myself today (IMHO Friday is the best day as it's much quieter) but was just too tired after the last week in the Isle Of Man. I was then going to head up to Oulton for the rest of the weekend - you can do more than one thing in a weekend, you know
You mention the brain being better at remembering the negative things - well the only bad thing I can remember about the Festival is the two points mentioned above - both problems being overcome by going on a Friday... |

Okay then Peter - time for you to post a reply then so I can read it: you tell me what Goodwood is like.
What are the facilities like for disabled people? I have 2 disabled people in my family to deal with which is why I find I can't do more than one thing in a weekend (and those things I CAN do involve a hell of a lot of negotiation with the family/contingency plans setting up). |

Suzy,
You are a nice person. I know folks I've been lucky enough to meet her. But whilst I may agree with you, you do appear to be taking this a bit too seriously. You are right we can only be in one place at one time and you chose Mallory for your motorsport foray this weekend. I haven't been to Goodwood for some time but i recall it was good fun and whilst the prima donnas were there at that timet they didn't stop me having a beer with Gerry (no change there then) or shaking Derek Bell's hand (just 'cos he's a top bloke) etc. |

I went to Goodwood today. Very enjoyable. Got to see many classic cars driving up the hill. I'd pay the money for just the sounds alone.
I got to meet Ten-tenths member Damon too. All in all a good day. For all those going to tomorrow and/or Sunday, you're guaranteed a good day. |
