Starting Racing with the Barc SE tin tops

Hey,

I have been looking more and more in to racing and wanted to know the spec of the cars that would be running in class T4 upto 1600cc dualvalve or 1300cc multivavle. Also what sort of costs would be involved for running a car for a year so entry costs for each round and roughly how many sets of tyres you would go through. Also would it be possible to come and do say 3 or 4 rounds in the year as I probably won't be able to make all the rounds due to working as a mechanic for a race team.

For the regulations, take a look at http://www.barc.net/regional_centres...9RegsVer01.pdf

Registration is about £15 for the year (must be the cheapest in the country) costs depend on how much you want to spend, and how competitive you want to be - can be probably the cheapest series in the uk.

If you are looking at 3 or 4 rounds in T4, you could probaby make yours tyres last years, not rounds !!!!

I've been running an uncompetitive Rover in T1 ( temporarily stopped until I get another job) and it's taken me ages to wear out the ****e tyres that I bought in error (888's are the way to go) apart from that, it's just been brake pads and odds and sods.
Car was bought to run in a German series, but my Astra dropped a valve and I haven't fixed it yet, so Rover was the only car to come out to play in.

I can tell you how much to run an uncompetitive car - someone will probably be along later to tell you how much it costs to run something competitive.

getting started

you wont find racing much cheaper than in the barc tin tops and wether you want to be competitive or not is down to the size of your wallet , but i guarentee you will find someone to race against and ENJOY IT which is the most important thing in my opinion , i dont race to win (because me and my car are a bit lardy with limited finances ) but i,m currntly 2nd in the series having never finished in the top ten , and have enjoyed every minute of racing against the best bunch of drivers there is on the circuit at probably the best organised events you will ever attend, look forward to racing against you.

Hi Richard, like Ken says a good mix of cars out there and will be someone to race with in the field.

Its hard to put a costing on racing, but whatever you think it will cost you..... triple it, its good fun though.

Your best bet is to try and come to a meeting and have a chat with a few guys and have a good look at the cars.

Thanks. I'm just trying to get an idea of what sort of spec the cars in T4 are so I have a traget to aim for Running R888's at the minute. What sort of tyres are people running in the wet?

I'll be attending Brands hatch in november hopefully and I'll try make myself known.

Hi Richard, I'm racing a Mk5 Fiesta in class T3 which i've rebuilt and prepared from an ebay auction - it's standardish at the moment to keep costs down but like everyone else it's work in progress!

I'm using Toyo R888's which i expect should last me 1-2 seasons, as i've always raced fiesta's i've been through more shells/engines than brake pads or petrol but otherwise things are fairly cheap with a lower class car. I've only started late in this season myself but it seems quite a friendly series with a good variety of cars to race against.

The Tin Tops is probably one of the cheapest racing you can get in the UK with entry fees about £200ish for 2 x 15min races. Club/series registration is almost negligible compared to the likes of the BRSCC which i've escaped from.

Have you got a car already or are you looking to buy or prepare your own?

thanks dom. i see your local to me maybe have to come and see you some time? i already have a 1300 endura ka mostly prep'd just then engine to do.

Hi Richard,

We raced our Stock Hatch spec XR2's in class T4 for one race last season and found them to be fairly competetive.

This year we are running Zetec engines so are in T1.

The championship is as cheap as you can get and the quality of racing is fantastic. The driving standards are excellent and all the guys involved are great fun and helpful.

The Toyos last a good 3 rounds and other than a couple of sets of brake pads that all is all we have spent this year on maintenance.

Look forward to seeing you at brands (cars 46 & 47).

Er yes but the Fiesta's etc spend a lot less time going sideways then the Jag!

From the spectators point of view, this series is one of the best around. Great cars, great racing and great people involved. When someone gives a graduate a chance and i get some ££ together for a racing license it will be this series i hope to have a go in

Try the CSCC Tin-Tops endurance races. 40 mins long, one or two drivers; a real hoot. Some of the BARC Tin-Top boys have been out to play and done well. Ask Danny Caesar.

i race in t4, and i spent my budget for the year before christmas haha. its great racing and great people in it, and tyres ive had 8 so far and will have another set i think after snett.

If you want to find out about my fiesta xr2 just message me, and it best be the t4 class winning car this year, and is up for sale if your interested, its a good spec and pretty good condition.

i believe its just been me in t4 apart from joanne gordon, who hasnt done all the rounds. and no idea about t5
