Push-to-Pass at Road America

From this article:
Quote:
The long straightaways can devour the 60-second allotment of boost in a few laps, leading Champ Car officials to introduce a one-time increase of 15 seconds to the push-to-pass reservoir.

"The length of the most prolonged full-throttle run on this track is 16 seconds, which means that with our normal levels, drivers would only have four pushes at their disposal," said Champ Car Electronics Manager Kevin Vander Laan. "What we are doing in essence allows for one additional push."

The increase will be in effect for the Road America event only, and will revert back to the 60-second level for next weekend's Centrix Financial Grand Prix of Denver.

Not really a fan of changing technical rules from race-to-race, but this one makes sense.

With such a long single use of the boost button could mean it is more effective.

I thought push to pass was very effective today, I only with there was some way of seeing that it was in use from both sides of the vehicle, not just the rear. Possibly a light on the roll hoop or nose.

It was obvious, on the last restart, who had P2P and who didn't!
Great stuff, IMO!

If looking from the front you can see the driver's eyes get wider

Tracy and Bruno were both on the PTP when Tracy came out of the pits in front of him...that was a waste of both their minutes since they both went off the course.
Another good PTP shot was watching Jourdain go up the hill and fly past Sperafico.
