Ultimate A1GP grid...

From the drivers who have represented their country so far in the past 2 seasons, what is the ultimate A1GP grid? Eg.

France: Alex Premat
Brazil: Piquet
Germany: Hulkenberg etc etc?

Anybody else think we should have a Finnish car in A1?

Good idea for a thread.

I'd agree with most of what Valker listed except I'd choose McIntosh for Canada (he did win a race after all) and Lapierre for France (who won one or two also...)

Scott Speed as the American representitive?!? Are you crazy? He couldn't keep the car on the damn track in his two races. I say we should be represented my Johnathan Summerton!

Depends who you ask! The "bigger" names that have tried A1GP (Carpentier, Fittipaldi, Junquiera etc.) all seemed to struggle compared to the younger, less well-known guys, so the list given is a good stab at picking the cream of the A1GP crop over two seasons...

I think Keke Rosberg tried to create a Nordic team but didn't find enough investors/money (and (maybe) didn't want to put his own money in it )

So I money is the issue once again... but maybe some kind of "Greater Finland " / Finnic team with Estonias could be better choice... our southern brothers seem to be quite interested in racing.

I think Thundersports was just been laughing at the Greek driver?

It's a very impressive list of former F1 drivers, three who have since become F1 drivers, a couple more on their way to F1, plus some very good talent from countries who don't have the $$$ to get a driver to F1 (e.g. Jonny Reid).

The only country in my view that has not fielded a driver that did the country justice is Japan, but they were short lived and I guess Shimoda himself was paying for it.

In other words the level of drivers we have seen is not the problem, what will hopefully improve as the series grows is the ability for teams to get top drivers consistently. Particularly at the beginning and end of seasons where overlap occurs with other series. Once A1GP grows and some money starts sloshing around, it will become more attractive vs. other types of racing.

Seriously it is the usual story, no budget despite the effort from all his friends over here. Too bad, he was a top driver in world karting but he was born in a rally crazy country so...

Interesting thread, and lucky that the choice of drivers was limited to those who have competed in A1 already!

Have to say that, much as I like Robbie Kerr and think he's really talented, over a whole season, I reckon Oliver Jarvis would have done a better job for Team GB.

What would be more interesting, vaguely suggested by Sid above, would be which nations really should be represented - I mean in terms of real potential. Yes, why no Finland? And Argentina? Monaco? Belgium? What about the Isle of Man?

Both Finland and Estonia could justify an A1 team IMO.

Well, the Finnish companies aren't very interested to invest money in motorsports. If we look the F1 drivers Finland has had, mostly you can say that they have reached F1 by talent. Mika Salo paid for his drive for Lotus in 1994, but he became later regular F1 driver.

Rosberg would be interested to run a team and Finland has some young drivers who could be driving our cars, like Mika Mäki, Markus Niemelä, Juho Annala and Valle Mäkelä.

Perhaps they should put Ralf in the German car and Albers in the Dutch one too then.

Nah Webber is still doing ok in F1.

I am now even more convinced A1 would be better for Albers since A1 does not have refuelling...

He might have been the best Dutch driver so far, but is not exactly a gentleman aside the racetrack.
