IPS to run at Indianapolis motor speedway

It has just been announced through Trackside on Line
that the IPS cars will run on the Saturday before the Indy 500. Good news for the series.
The Saturday is the last practice day for the IRL cars before Bubble day on the Sunday.
There will be a big turnout that weekend!

I was thinking this yesterday while watching the first round from Homestead , its a good idea and will give these guys some great experience on the Indianapolis track.

good move I think.

Great move for the teams. They really needed some help with their sponsorship packages and this will go a long way to making them more marketable.

Fun addition to the schedule and a great way to get these guys some Indy seat time for the future.

Hope they ship some more chassis soon though. Need 26-30 to get a solid field on that huge track.

I'll be there!

I think that it is IRP that the Pro-Series will be racing at. That is what it said the last time I checked the series web site. I could be wrong....

The Pro Series will race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the Saturday before Bump Day. Forty lap race.

Trust B/Mark, he has excellent sources.

Call me crazy, but I'd rather see the Pro-Series run at IRP. I think that it would be a hell of a show to see them on the half mile.

What is next for IMS, Monster Trucks!

Bad move. Indy should be the Holy Grail and inaccessible. It is bad enough that the 500 is now the 3rd most important event at the Speedway...

I've been to all three. The 500 is still the biggest and most important event at the Speedway by a long shot. F1 pales in comparison and the Brickyard while hugely popular is still just a weekend event.

Both of those races may well be the largest in their respective series but they still don't equal the crowd, pagentry, tradition or excitement of the 500. You have to see Indy in person to truly understand - it is still magical.

Hey guys - it's a good move I think.
It's not as if the IPS race is on the same day as the 500 afterall - so how does it cheapen the show? Adds to it I would have thought. Future IRL stars will come from this series - hopefully to include England's own Mark Taylor - so it's good for these drivers to get the hang of the Speedway for future reference - albeit at a lower speed.

Good point, Dan!

I also think that, running a race at Indy will make IPS much more attractive to sponsors and drivers, won't it?

Mmm, and I hope to do so, but on the global scale Indy does not mean what it once did. (Funny talking about global scale in respect to NASCAR, but there you go.)

We are not talking about Nascar, we are talking about IPS at INDY.
IPS is a feeder series for the IRL and as such needs to give the drivers as much experience as they can so that they are as prepared as they can be before they step up.
BTW they tested Friday and the front runners were acieving 187/188mph average lap speed. That sounds like good experience with more to come in the race which is building up to being a slipstreaming epic and more than worthy of IMS.
I'll be there.

Fio, you said that already above. Be original please.

The truth is that people like yourself who didn't like Indy in the first place are the only ones that I have heard complaining. Indy is not "just another track" and never will be. Does running the Pro Series race there a week before Indy diminish the feats of guys like Vuky, Ward, Clark, Unser(s), Andretti or Foyt? Hardly.

I can guarantee you that I'll get goose bumps again as I pass under the tunnel, I'll have a smile a mile wide as I walk through the garages, I'll get tears in my eyes for Taps and the invocation and I'll have all of the above happening as they take the green flag. I'll also note a minute after the checkered flag falls that it is only 364 days until we get to do this all again! Oh yeah, I'll watch a 40 lap race on Saturday at the track while I'm there for final practice as well.

It's an issue for those looking for issues I guess. Those of us who have been fascinated by the Speedway since we were kids just write it up as another chapter in the most storied speedway in the world.

Dan, I forgot I already said it. LOL I just realised it. At the end of the day, my two posts are a month apart....

BTW, I love Indy. I've been there and will go back for sure. I love May, because it's Indy. I can give a sh*t what series races at the Indy 500, I will always watch it! Also bubble day is one of my favorite TV days of the year. As a matter of fact, I paid $75 more to fly back from Europe on Saturday before bubble day instead of Sunday, so I can watch it. So, don't say I don't love the Indy 500, because I do!

All three events at the Brickyard (Indy, Brickyard, USGP) are the largest events for each of their respective series. The Indy 500 is the single largest sporting event in the world with approximately 450,000 tickets sold
